Fabio Quartararo will drive an official M1 in 2020 at Yamaha-SRT
Next year Fabio Quartararo will have a Yamaha with identical specifications to that of his teammate Franco Morbidelli, based on the factory M1s of Rossi and Viñales. A well-deserved step forward for the 2019 MotoGP rookie of the year, still in contention for third place in the championship !
With six podiums and four pole positions in seventeen races, it’s an understatement to say that Fabio Quartararo’s first season among the elite is remarkable! The beginner from Nice, crowned "Rookie of the year 2019", is 6th in the provisional position ahead of Rossi and can still claim 3rd place currently occupied with 20 pts ahead of Rins.

“It has been an incredible first season for the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team in MotoGP and we are very grateful to Petronas and Yamaha for their confidence in our ability to succeed,” said Yamaha-SRT team manager Razlan Razali, delighted to be able to announce at home in Sepang the obtaining of an additional M1 "Specs A" for 2020.
Recall that the Yamaha-SRT team started the 2019 season with two separate motorcycles: an M1 "Specs A" identical to those of Rossi and Viñales for Franco Morbidelli and a less advanced M1 "Specs B" with a 500 rpm limit for Fabio Quartararo. The excellent results of the French nevertheless led Yamaha to "jump" this electronic clamping for this end of the season..
Next year, the two teammates will be on equal terms with a Yamaha in "Factory" configuration: their M1 will therefore be modeled on the factory bikes, but will not evolve as quickly. Rossi and Viñales will continue to receive the latest developments as a priority, which will be transmitted a few races later to the drivers of the satellite team..
This promotion of Fabio Quartararo through official material further expands his likely access to the official Yamaha team in 2021, when Rossi and Viñales contracts expire.
