Market reports - First half of 2014: KTM's market report - KTM used equipment

KTM has just completed the first half of 2014 with a drop of -4% and has a total of 3,168 registrations. The president of the Austrian brand in France, Eric Antunes, gives his impressions to Site readers. Review and interview.

Site: The French motorcycle market is on the rise again in … Is it thanks to good weather, new products, dealers, demo vehicle registrations, poor scores from previous years ?!
Éric Antunes (President of KTM France)
: We can’t really say that the market is on the rise again. The months of and have not been positive. Only one brand is driving the market so far. The others progress according to the marketing of their new products or their marketing actions. Distributors do a remarkable job of developing their sales and brands help their network by introducing new products and / or actions able to bring customers to the points of sale. Nevertheless, despite the increase and two more stable months, or even the decrease, we are still a long way off from having recovered the cumulative decreases in .

MNC: For you, what is the highlight of this first half of the year? ?
E. A.
: The highlight for the start of the year is that, despite the good weather and the innovations, the market is struggling to rebound. Customers remain cautious about their future. They still do not or no longer believe in their policies, who themselves no longer know how to speak to their constituents. In short, a vicious circle. This blocks the economy, and therefore our market.

MNC: Regarding KTM, what is your assessment of your first six months 2014 ?
E. A.
: Regarding KTM, the results are mixed. We are satisfied with our truck sales, even if we are below our forecasts. We had to deal with production delays on volume models and especially on our. On the latter, I would like to apologize to all our customers who had to wait more than reason for their motorcycle. All orders should finally be delivered before the end of July. We also had a production delay on our 125 and 390 Duke, but it’s behind us now and our network is finally supplied normally. This should allow us to have a very beautiful month of July.

The other part of our range, off-road, is on the decline, whether it’s cross country or enduro. We are selling less cross-country than last year without really understanding the reason, except the one mentioned above of the lack of confidence of customers in their future. If we look at enduro, we are paying our caution on the 2014 quantities. It should start again with the that we just delivered. Enduro is no longer buoyant, it is a niche market with many players, but we must maintain a level of production capable of satisfying our customers..

MNC: How is your second semester going? ?
E. A.
: The second half looks better for KTM than the first. We still have some 1290 Super Duke R to deliver in July, our 125 and 390 Duke are again available and still competitive against the competition, even compared to an MT125 which is more expensive and less equipped because without ABS . At the start of September, we will introduce our two new small sports cars, the and with real sales potential, to the market and our will be available throughout the network. We should therefore regain market shares corresponding to our potential on the French market..

MNC: Finally, lowering speed limits on the roads make you fear a decrease in the attraction of the French for motorcycles and scooters? ?
E. A.
: The drop in speed does not make me fear a drop in sales. Just because the speed drops doesn’t mean that people will need to move less. This will not stop the urge to ride a motorcycle. There are already a lot of places on our departmental roads that are limited to 70 km / h, so for my part I don’t really see any change but also no interest in this limitation. Once again, this is an all-security political blow and not a long-term measure. If you take a pothole at 90 km / h or 80 km / h, the result will be the same. On a motorcycle, you have a good chance of falling. Ensuring that the secondary road network is maintained would be a measure more related to accidentology, as has been proven many times, but that would also require a lot of public funds and would therefore not be a remunerative measure. CQFD.
