Market reports - The French motorcycle market started badly in 2013 - The motorcycle market started badly in 2013

Sales of 125cc and larger motorcycles and scooters last month fell -18% from January 2012, to a total of 7,819 units. In January 2013, no jealousy: the 125 plummet by -23% and the big cubes by -15%. Balance sheet.

The motorcycle market started badly in 2013

The first figures are not good for the French market: in January 2013, only 7,819 motorcycles (motorcycles and scooters of 125 cc and more) found takers, against 9,537 last year over the same period (read our).

The fall in the sector thus reached -18%, without the number of working days between the two months compared (22) allowing us to moderate it. Worse, the number of concession opening days was in excess in January 2013 (22 compared to 21 in January 2012).

But the element that had the most impact on registrations in France last month is undoubtedly the snow, which fell generously during the third weekend. In some areas, the roads remained impassable (especially on two-wheelers!) For long days…

We therefore observe very small sales volumes on the 125 market (-23.3%). These volumes provide the very first indications for 2013, but should be analyzed with caution. Honda may have completed the first month in the lead, Yamaha and Piaggio are only a few lengths away…

Peugeot took advantage of the timid departure of the top three to devour market share and remained in fourth place in the 125 classification. KTM, on the other hand, fell into line and let the Suzuki, Kymco and Sym scooters pass. MBK remains behind while Daelim returns to the Top 10.

Sales of large cubes also fell significantly in January (-15.4%). Yamaha takes the lead despite a drop of -20%. First in, Kawasaki clings to second place a good distance from BMW and Honda. Suzuki completes the Top 5, but remains a tone below its compatriots.

Let us underline the presence in 10th place of the Sherco brand, which proves that motorcycles in France are not limited to the road! In front of the French brand are four other Western manufacturers: Ducati, KTM, Harley-Davidson and Triumph.
