MotoGP - The Moto GP will finally stay at Silverstone until 2016 -

New twist in the complicated British GP soap opera: the 2015 and 2016 editions will finally take place at Silverstone, like last year, and not at Donington Park due to a new financial dispute between the promising race and the owners of the circuit.

New twist in the: the 2015 and 2016 editions will finally take place at Silverstone, like last year, and not at Donington Park due to a new financial dispute between the promising of the race and the owners of the circuit.

Recall that the new promoter of the British Grand Prix is the, a new motor sports complex under construction in Wales where the motorcycle Grands Prix should normally migrate from 2016. This new circuit, with a length of 5.6 km, not being able to be ready in time to welcome the Continental Circus this year, .

And why not at Silverstone, the scene of the motorcycle Grands Prix since 2010, precisely replacing Donington? Due to a financial disagreement between Circuit of Wales and the owners of Silverstone, for whom the asking price for the race to take place was far too high …

"We wanted to keep MotoGP at Silverstone, but we couldn’t afford to finance it," said Richard Phillips, COO of Silverstone Circuits Limited..

"We did what we thought was the best reasonable offer to keep the event going at Silverstone, but it seems that the Circuit of Wales, which has no experience in hosting a Grand Prix, has ruled it could do better on his own, using Donington until their circuit was ready ", he analyzed at the time with a lot of bitterness.

Silverstone "in" until 2016 !

This disappointment is now a thing of the past, since Circuit of Wales is finally going backwards, for lack of being able to finalize its agreement with Donington Park: you said "amateurism" ?

"We would like to thank the leaders of Silverstone, our partners at Dorna (promoter of MotoGP, Editor’s note) as well as our investors for their responsiveness to ensure the 2015 event at a time when it had become clear that we could not ensure our contractual obligations with Donington ", explains Michael Carrick, CEO of the Circuit of Wales.

"Many efforts have been made in recent years so that MotoGP fans can take advantage of everything Silverstone has to offer and we were devastated to have lost the event last autumn", recalls Patrick Allen, director of the management of the Silverstone circuit.

"Motorcycle racing is as much a part of Silverstone’s history as motor racing and I am obviously delighted to be able to announce that we will be hosting F1 and MotoGP in 2015", he said, announcing that the 2015 race will take place from August 28 to 30.

As for the famous Circuit de Wales, it seems that the MotoGP are not yet ready to put the slicks there since the owners have not yet received the authorization to start the work! By Michael Carrick’s own admission, the construction will be spread over "the next two years", a deadline which implies that the circuit will not integrate MotoGP programming as planned in 2016, but at best in 2017.

Consequently, the agreement between Circuit of Wales and Silverstone extends until 2016 inclusive. All that for that would one be tempted to conclude…
