New - The 2014 Triumph Cruisers ready for the assault - Used TRIUMPH

Triumph reviews its Cruisers before starting the 2014 campaign: the Hinckley firm takes care of the America and Speedmaster uniforms and hires two new Thunderbirds: the Commander and the LT for Light Touring… Take care of yourself !

Within the Triumph range, the "Classic" models are not the only ones to undergo a little makeover next year (read). There are indeed some changes in the "Cruiser" class….

Like the Bonneville, Thruxton and Scrambler, the America and the Speedmaster welcome an engine block with reworked cooling fins, as well as new pots. After all, the look and sound of the parallel-twin is at least as important on cruisers as it is on classics, no. ?!

The English have made some subtle alterations to their little customs. On the America, we note the appearance of comfortable running boards, a larger brake pedal and a double "toe-heel" selector. The most American of English motorcycles also receives tank pads.

In order to shine against the competition, the America adorns its clutch housing and chain guard with chrome, polishes its battery support and inaugurates a new biton color "red on red", nothing moves !

For its part, the Speedmaster plays the black card from the headlight to the rear rim, including the handlebars, the crown, the selector, the brake pedal, the footrest brackets, the shock absorber springs, the gearbox. air, battery holder, etc.

To the bikers who cannot be satisfied with the 72Nm of the small 865cc twin but would be frightened by the 221Nm of the 2.3-liter 3-cylinder in the Rocket updated this year (read), Triumph continues to offer the Thunderbird.

Or rather "the" Thunderbird (s), since two new versions join the ranks of the Cruisers Triumph: the Commander and the LT ("Light Tournig").

Both are equipped with the same twin-cylinder – in line and not in V, of course – of 1699 cc, developing in this latest version a maximum power of 98 hp and a maximum torque of 151 Nm, or 5 less than the Thunderbird "Storm ", but 5 more than the" short "Thunderbird with a capacity of 1597 cc.

In appearance, the Commander looks like a Rocket and looks like a boss! The installation of large tires (140 / 75-17 at the front and 200 / 50-17 at the rear!) Has also forced the engineers to review the geometry of the front axle, but they assure that their new custom keeps a "intuitive and trustworthy handling".

Still according to Triumph, the 47 mm fork and the Showa brand shocks ensure the bike is a perfect compromise between comfort and handling. The brakes (three 310 mm discs bitten at the front by two Nissin 4-piston calipers and at the rear a Brembo caliper) complete the picture and "the ABS system is delivered as standard", adds Triumph.

The new saddle – dual density – promises a more comfortable seat, for the pilot as for the passenger. The fact that this new element is also fitted to the new "Tourer" version of the Thunderbird tends to demonstrate this..

The LT is however clearly distinguished from the Commander by the many accessories delivered as standard and aimed at transforming the terrible Cruiser into an appreciable road. We immediately note the presence of the windshield overhanging the three headlights, the side bags and the sissy-bar, as essential as the passenger footboard, isn’t it Darling ?

The Light Tourer also offers spoked rims fitted with new tires: "Dissatisfied with the performance of diagonal whitewall tires, our engineers turned to British manufacturer Avon with whom they jointly developed the first and only whitewall radial", explains Triumph.

The release dates and exact prices of these four "new" Triumph motorcycles are yet to be discovered. Site is investigating the aisles of the gigantic EICMA trade fair in Milan: stay tuned !
