New - Trike Tri Glide Ultra 2014: Harley France expands its customer base to B licenses - Used HARLEY-DAVIDSON

In 2014, an unexpected novelty landed in Harley-Davidson dealerships in France: the Tri Glide Ultra three-wheeler. Xavier Crepet, Marketing and Communication Director of H-D France, reveals this high-end Trike and its objectives.

Take an Electra Glide and graft it two big 205 mm wheels at the rear: you get the Tri Glide Ultra, a luxurious and ultra-comfortable three-wheeler from Harley-Davidson..

In reality, the approach is not new: Harley has been building and marketing Trikes for several years … but not on our side of the Atlantic.

"The Trike H-D was already driving in the USA, but for homologation reasons it took a long time to import it into Europe", explains Xavier Crepet, Marketing and Communication Director of Harley-Davidson France interviewed by Site. 2014 therefore marks an important milestone for the French subsidiary: as for the Piaggio MP3 or the Can-Am Syder, driving the Tri Glide Ultra does not require no motorcycle license, which opens up new perspectives for the American brand.

From now on, it is enough to hold a car license (license B) and follow the compulsory seven-hour training course to become part of the Harley-Davidson "family". For some fans of the brand that the passage of the motorcycle license repels, it is the unexpected opportunity to realize his "American dream" !

On condition, however, that you have the means: benefiting from all the improvements made to the 2014 Touring range, the Tri Glide Ultra can be exchanged for 35,990 euros in black and 36,790 euros in two-tone colors (read our) . Xavier Crepet tells us more about this unexpected novelty in 2014: interview.

Tri Glide Ultra at a glance

Powered by the 1690cc Twin-Cooled "High Output", the new air-water-cooled Twin Cam 103 launched in 2014, the Trike Tri Glide Ultra is the three-wheeled counterpart of the luxurious Electra Glide roadster. At the front it receives a 16-inch rim with a 90mm wide tire, while the rear axle is made up of two 16-inch, 205mm-wide wheels. Bulky (2670 mm long and 545 kg empty!), It carries 22.71 liters of gasoline and can carry weapons and luggage in its large 124-liter trunk located behind the passenger "chair". As a duo and well loaded, the 138 Nm of torque of the new air-water Twin Cam will be put to use !

Fortunately, during maneuvers, the driver can simplify the task thanks to the electric reverse gear, which can be operated on the left stalk. Like the new Touring 2014, the Tri Glide Ultra receives the new multimedia system "Boom Box", with 6.5 inch color touch screen and a high performance sound system. Likewise, it is equipped with the unique coupled braking system discovered on the .

Site: What are the reasons that prompted H-D to offer the Trike Tri Glide Ultra to French (tri) bikers? The success of other three-wheeled cruisers like the Can Am Spyder (read in particular our) ?

Xavier Crepet, Harley-Davidson France Marketing and Communication Director : All the homologation work being completed, we can now present it on the European market. We know that there is a demand from our customers and prospects for this type of branded vehicle, regardless of the path of other brands whose concept is quite different from ours.

X. C. : Previously, interested customers bought a Harley in the network and then approached preparers like EML. Apart from the transformation which could be costly, they lost the two-year manufacturer’s warranty.

M.-N.C. : Which vehicle category does this Trike Glide Ultra fit into? Does it require the motorcycle license (A), or the car license (B) and a 7-hour training are they enough ?

X. C. : This trike will be accessible to all A licenses, and B licenses with 7h training, which opens up a whole new clientele…
