News - Law of 100 hp: the 2015 Ducati Multistrada unfairly restrained in France! - Used DUCATI

According to our information, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 DVT should have been the first full power motorcycle authorized to run in France before 2016, as soon as it was released, but it was the victim of administrative problems. ! Update with the director of Ducati West Europe.

The new Ducati Multistrada 1200 DVT and its French owners are victims of an injustice: the Italian maxitrail should logically be sold in "full power" version. This is what we discovered by noting, at the end of our, that the "engine" warning light of the Ducati did not go out….

Asked about this, the technical manager of Ducati West Europe explained to us that "the Euro4 standard to which the Multi meets is intended to be more transparent than the old one: as soon as the motorcycle detects an anomaly, even a minor one, the warning light comes on. With Euro3, instantly resolved concerns (such as a momentary desynchronization of the injectors, for example) were already listed in the memory of the ECU and went unnoticed by the customer. But on the new Multistrada, the light stays on. However, the user does not have to go directly to his dealership: he can enter the dashboard submenus and discover the source of the problem himself.".

La Multistrada, too far ahead of its time !

The relationship with the 100 horsepower law, a priori not obvious, is however straightforward: legally, the fact that the Multistrada meets the very latest European standard should have allowed Ducati to sell its motorbike in a 160 horsepower version in France. !

So why the devil did the Reds not jump at the opportunity to make the interior to their "bridled" competitors? "Because the homologation of the Multistrada 1200 DVT, the first motorcycle in France to meet the Euro 4 standard, was a real obstacle course, even in 100 horsepower !", explains Thierry Mouterde, Managing Director of Ducati West Europe, interviewed by Site.

"We presented our case to UTAC (Technical Union of the Automobile, Motorcycle and Cycle, Editor’s note) from the second half of 2014 and did not receive the CNIT (National type identification code, NDLR) only two days before the arrival of the machines in concessions, last March", continues the CEO.

"Normally, CNIT’s request is satisfied in about two weeks", continues Mr. Mouterde,"but in the case of the new Multistrada it took more than six months !"Fearing that the homologation file of the new Multi is outright blocked by the mention" 160 ch ", Ducati France has therefore preferred to homologate its machine in 100 horses.

"UTAC could have validated the Multistrada in 160 hp", points out the big boss of Ducati in France,"but the administration (the prefectures in particular, Editor’s note) is not ready and the highway code has not been updated". Mamma mia !

"We could have considered going to court to assert our rights", acknowledges the CEO of Ducati West Europe,"but the procedure would have been very long. And we did not want to penalize our customers by offering them in concession motorcycles of 160 horses certainly, but impossible to register."…

"We therefore preferred to proceed in two stages: the homologation of the motorcycle in French version 100 horses, then that "Full Power" that we are currently leading.". Will the famous CNIT of the Multistrada 1200 DVT of 160 horses be obtained before January 1, 2016, date on which motorcycles will be able to express themselves freely in France?
