1299 Panigale S Anniversario: To all Stoner, all honor !
While Andrea Dovizioso and Scott Redding, Ducati titular riders in MotoGP, were indeed present at World Ducati Week 2016, the honor of unveiling the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario went to young retiree Casey Stoner, test rider for the Bologna brand since this year !
This favor speaks volumes about the respect that Ducati still has for the only rider who won him a MotoGP title in 2007, who assiduously develops the Desmosedici Grand Prix to occupy his retirement in 2012 after a last season at Honda..
Built in only 500 units, this Panigale S "Anniversario" celebrates 90 years of Ducati – including 70 years of motorcycle activity because when it started in 1926, the "Societe Radio Brevetti Ducati" produced radio components – with style and performance , as the Australian demonstrated during a – too short – video demonstration (see below).
Among the details that differentiate it from the 1299 Panigale S include the use of carbon parts (mudguards, trim), an Akrapovic titanium exhaust and a lithium battery. The weight takes the opportunity to drop by 2.5 kg, or an attractive 164 kg dry for a power still as intimidating of 205 ch spat by the twin "Superquadro" of 1285 cc !
The electronics, already very sophisticated on the standard model, go a step further on this Anniversary version: the traction control and the anti-wheeling are now even more detailed thanks to the latest generation of Bosch electronic control unit, which also takes care of tilt sensitive ABS.
Engine brake control (EBC) is carried over to its – excellent – functions, as is the upshift and downshift shifter and the Ohlins suspensions controlled in real time electronically. A real "3.0" Superbike !
The Ducati 1299 S Anniversario will be available for 500 happy from the second part of July, at a price estimated by MNC close to € 30,000 (€ 26,390 for the Panigale S).
