News - Triumph Tiger 800-XC and Daytona 675R: ready to attack - New Triumph Tiger 800 and 800XC

Triumph waited for EICMA 2010 to deliver the latest information on its two Tiger 800 and 800 XC trails and its sporty Daytona 675R. Availability dates, prices, technical sheets and interviews with brand managers are on MNC !

New Triumph Tiger 800 and 800XC

At the Milan EICMA 2010 Motor Show, on the Triumph stand, the Speed Triple was a great success. But this novelty, presented in Cologne and already tested by the specialized press – and approved by MNC (read our) – is already no longer really one..

Colors, prices and availability

(Triumph France forecast)

  • Tiger 800 black, white or yellow: € 9,500 (+ € 500 for ABS) end of November 2010

  • Tiger 800 XC black, white or orange: € 11,000 in December 2010

  • White Daytona 675 R: less than € 14,000 in March 2011

Suddenly, the eyes of visitors to the Milan show are almost all on the other three new Triumph 2011 motorcycles: the Tiger 800 and Tiger 800XC adventurers, as well as the ultimate "made in Hinckley" tracker, the Daytona 675R !

Hunted by English ducks like … mallards by hunters (!), The two little Tiger finally deliver, through the official channel (read), all their secrets…

Starting with the least well-kept, perhaps: the displacement of their 3-cylinder engine – what else? -, confirmed at 800 cc (799 to be precise) for the two trails which have been the subject of a lot of work at this level.

The English would not have been satisfied with increasing the race of the 675 equipping the Daytona and Street Triple (74 x 61.9 against 74 x 52.3), since "only 10 to 20% of parts are common to both engines", confided Jean-Luc Mars during our visit to the Triumph stand in Milan (see our video interview opposite top right).

All new, the 800 takes fewer revs than its 675 brother and is content to develop "only" 94 horsepower at 9300 rpm, but outputs a maximum torque of 79 Nm, and this from 7850 rpm (when the Daytona goes look for its 125 hp at 12,600 rpm and its 72 Nm at 11,700 rpm).

Unlike BMW, whose parallel twin 800 was deflated and even renamed on the small F "650" GS, Triumph has chosen to equip its two Tigers with the same engine version. There are therefore no small and big sisters at Triumph, but two false twins with different inclinations. !

The Tiger 800 for the city

Thus, the Tiger 800 "quite short" is intended for road use, even urban. "Built to take you", title Triumph on its official website: to take you to work, on a walk, on weekends or even on vacation through the accessories box.

For this, the 800 adopts 19-inch spoked rims at the front and 17 inches at the rear, with more road tires: Pirelli Scorpion Trail. Enough to allow yourself a few escapades in the paths but, above all, attack on small winding roads !

On the suspension side, the fully adjustable Showa 43 mm inverted fork and the Showa shock absorber with adjustable preload and rebound offer travel of 180 and 170 mm respectively. The ground clearance is not specified but we can expect to cross the sidewalks or the gendarmes – lying down, of course! – without worries or clashes.

With its 210 kg fully loaded, the "road" Tiger 800 shouldn’t be too tiring to handle, even at low speeds. The relatively closed hunting angle (23.7 °) confirms this hypothesis. Foresight, Triumph has equipped its Tiger with a height-adjustable saddle: 810 mm for the little ones and 830 for the big ones.

The Tiger 800 XC for the fields

For its part, the Tiger 800 XC – for "Cross Country", no doubt – intends to seduce more intrepid bikers: its high and thin front wheel (90/90 ZR 21), its spoked rims, its more notched tires and its more adventurous general look is enough to guess.

Other data make it possible to verify the more adventurous vocation of the XC version: its suspension travel is greater (220 mm at the front and 215 at the rear), its caster angle is closed (23.1 °). and its saddle height varies from 845 to 865 mm.

Its hand guards – less practical in town – its small appendage placed under its front optic and above all its rims lead to a weight increase of 5 kg, or 215 kg in all. Triumph is proud of it: the Tiger 800 XC is "built to take it all" !

Moreover, the two "little tigers" share the same tubular steel trellis frame, the same aluminum swingarm, the same 19-liter tank and the same brake system. In addition, both can be fitted with switchable ABS. Roll on the test next week in Spain on Site: stay tuned !
