News - Zero DS: the all-round electric motorcycle! - Used ZERO MOTORCYCLES

The small American manufacturer Zero Motorcycles is launching a new model of electric motorcycle: alongside the Zero X and MX cross-country bikes and the Zero S supermoto, the Zero DS is now aligned, a trail created for Dual Sport … The revolution is underway ?

Scharwzy can be proud of it: it is in his state – California, for the foolish – that one of the most dynamic electric motorcycle manufacturers is installed! "Indeed there is aid in California, unfortunately ADEME does not plan anything for the moment for this type of vehicle in France !", regrets Alain Valla, marketing and communication manager at the importer Goes Europe.

Founded in 2006 by Neal Saiki, aeronautical engineer, Zero Motorcycles presents its fourth production: the Zero DS…

"Zero Motorcycles was the first manufacturer to offer an electric off-road motorcycle: the Zero X", recalls the Santa Cruz firm:"beating all expectations, the Zero X was a bestseller in 2008, paving the way for the highly anticipated road version, the Zero S Supermoto last April". An observation shared by Antoine Valla:"sales of X and MX versions (the motocross of the small family, editor’s note) take off beyond our expectations, but we are only at the beginning of the adventure !"

Today with the DS (Dual Sport), the range of Zero Motorcycles is still expanding and is opening above all to a wider clientele. "The Zero DS was designed for pilots who want maximum freedom in all circumstancesZero Motorcycles Managing Director Gene Banman says his new production is the world’s most versatile electric motorcycle..

Thus, the pilot can choose "cut across fields to get to work" Or vice versa, "take a road to get to your favorite path !".

For this, the American manufacturer has equipped its latest model with Zero – for zero pollutant emissions, of course – "a high performance suspension"with generous travel (254 mm at the front and 229 at the rear),"reinforced wheels (17×2.15 at the front and 16×3.0 at the rear) and mixed tiresIt should also be noted that the DS can be fitted with suitcases, installed directly in the factory..

The other elements are borrowed directly from the Frangine Supermotard: the Brushless electric motor ("brushless") powered by a Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4 kWh (58 V at 70 Ah for the curious) allowing either an autonomy of more than 80 km, i.e. a top speed of 90 km / h (the two are not compatible).

As for the lifespan of this battery, it varies "from 4 to 6 years for an intensity of use of one cycle per day", estimates Antoine Valla for Site.

The weight of this "Power Pack" is estimated according to the manufacturer at 36.3 kg, while the frame is announced for 13.2 kg. Main – and only? – modification made compared to the Zero S, the frame angle is more open: from 24 ° to 26 °.

With a total weight of 122.5 kg, the Zero DS should offer excellent performance on and off the road. But the most remarkable asset of this machine is undoubtedly its silence: a point that green motorcycle enthusiasts will certainly be able to highlight. !

"We are on a mission to make an impact and revolutionize our industry by combining the best aspects of a traditional motorcycle with today’s cutting edge technology.", recalls Neal Saiki.

Zero thus claims to be the only manufacturer of electric vehicles to use Lithium-ion batteries "revolutionaries"."Unlike our competitors, the Power Pack Zero does not contain metals like cobalt, nickel, lead or mercury", insist the Californian engineers. The" Power Pack "can therefore be landfilled as non-toxic waste.

Finally, "environmentally conscious consumers will appreciate knowing that the Zero DS is not only a clean, zero-emission vehicle, but also assembled with non-toxic components and virtually 100% recyclable", adds the builder.

In France, the DS will be available from October at a price of 9,450 €, transport included: "Goes Europe is working very actively to set up a dealer network. For the moment, the motorcycle is marketed via the web platform and it is available to dealers, including Goes Europe", explains Antoine Valla.
