Zero Motorcycles launches its 5th electric motorcycle: Zero XU

Derived from the Zero X all-terrain version, the new Zero XU electric motorcycle uses the same engine developing 1.7 kWh and above all adopts the same principle of removable battery: rechargeable in two hours or in less than an hour and a half with the ‘fast charge’ option, it can be removed from the vehicle to be connected to the mains once arrived at destination.

This characteristic obviously opens up new perspectives for enthusiasts of "nuclear" motorcycles, since it is no longer compulsory to have a garage with a mains plug, on condition of purchasing the optional charger to connect to a plug. 110 or 220 V.

Changes to the Zero Motorcycles range in 2011

In addition to the new Zero XU, Zero Motorcycles is upgrading its four other models in 2011. The Zero S, Zero DS, Zero X, Zero MX can now be fitted with the "Quick Charge" option which reduces charging time by almost 50%. The Z-Force engine has also been reinforced, while many parts have been changed (tires, suspensions, brakes, wheels and load indicator) for the benefit of better efficiency.. Another highlight: off-road electric motorcycles (X and MX) are now offered in a road-approved version, while the entire range can receive a belt transmission.. Finally, the MX can receive an Agni engine announced as "more powerful" by Zero Motorcycles which announces having increased "the capacities of the batteries by 12.5%" on these four 2011 models..

"The removable battery system offers the possibility of intensive use, since the battery can be replaced in a few seconds without tools: a perfect solution for couriers for example", adds Zero Motorcycles which aims "to broaden its customer target. ".

The autonomy remains however contained (between 40 and 48 km) for this Zero XU without clutch and final transmission by chain, whose top speed would just exceed 80 km / h (82 km / h according to the manufacturer).

Finally, in addition to the main aesthetic changes that differentiate the Zero X from the Zero XU (more tapered lines and curved handlebars on the XU), this new urban model will be more accessible than the all-terrain version with a saddle height that goes from 84.5 to 80.6 cm.

The Zero XU is marketed at a price of € 9,995 including tax (excluding start-up and registration costs) and the first deliveries are scheduled for (uhuhu!) April 2011.
