From 286 to more than 1,000 pilots in 40 years

Created in 1975 by the late Thierry Sabine (to whom we also owe it), the Enduro du Touquet has survived the decades without – too much – sacrificing its original philosophy. Of course, the nostalgic will regret the abandonment of the passage in the dunes of its beginnings, but this must be seen as a sign of maturity from this unique event in the world.. 

Because the "Touquet", renamed "Enduropale du Touquet" in 2006, has grown enormously, from 286 competitors in 1975 to a thousand today..

This spectacular increase generates its share of constraints, to which are added ever more intense environmental pressures.. 

In order to last, the flagship event of the sand racing calendar had to stay in step with its times, an extremely complex challenge insofar as motorsports no longer have "good press" in our current society. And a fortiori the competitions played in a natural environment…

"If the Touquet Enduro did not exist, no one today would dare to invent it", aptly sums up the director of the interesting video below, responsible for celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Le Touquet Enduro. Touquet. 

However, the fact that such an event disappears, would be regrettable both in sports and in economic terms for the city, or even the entire region..

Because with more than 200,000 spectators attending each year, the Enduro du Touquet is an invaluable source of income for all hoteliers, restaurateurs and managers of service stations or supermarkets in Pas-de-Calais. !

Sports issues

In sporting terms, the driver Adrien Beveren is a favorite in. The northerner has speed for him, as he proved by dominating the season of the French sand racing championship, of which he has just won the last event, the Gurp TT at Grayan-et-l’Hôpital (33).

Jean-Claude Mousse, unlucky this season, will for his part be keen to shine on an event he already has, his experience being a very precious asset for an event as difficult as Le Touquet, during which mechanics and bodies are subject to the test during three hours of racing.

Another probable contender for victory, Milko Potisek will unfortunately not be in the game this year: the Yamaha rider must forfeit, not yet sufficiently recovered from his leg injury contracted in November during the Supercross from Bercy from Lille

"I am announcing with great disappointment that I will not be at the start of the enduropale du Touquet. I did my best, but it is too tight for my leg. I have tears in my eyes just thinking see my comrades behind the grid. I will be back in 2016 with the goal of winning the crown! ", the Cassel driver said on his page on Sunday .

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Enduro du Touquet, the organizer is playing the card of nostalgia by adding a new race reserved for old motorcycles. 

This "Vintage Enduro" will be held exceptionally on Friday, January 30, 2015 and will pit bikes before 1990 against two 30-minute rounds.

The number of registrants for this event will be limited to 286 participants, the same number of competitors as in the very first edition.

Several winners of previous editions will line up at the start such as Arnaud Demeester, Jean-Claude Mousse, Kees Van Der Ven, David Hauquier, Steve Ramon, Adrien Van Beveren, Thierry Bethys or Mickaël Pichon. 

Youth is not forgotten with two events reserved for future grown-ups: Enduropale Juniors (13-17 years old), Quaduro (from 15 years old) and Enduropale Espoirs (11-15 years old). Finally, the event reserved for quads (the Quaduro, created in 1997) will delight fans of "4-wheels" with some 500 quads competing in solo or in duo on a 12.5 km course..
