Ajaccien Bruno Langlois won the 2013 edition of the famous American hill climb Pikes Peak International Hill Climb riding a Ducati Multistrada 1200S. Third last year with a Streetfighter, the 51-year-old Corsican took only 10’21.323 min to cover the 19.93 km and 156 turns that make up this event, which has been contested since 1916 in the mountain of Colorado Springs (read in particular and see ).

In the car, Loeb panics all the speedometers…

Another French driver brilliantly illustrated himself at this 91st edition of Pikes Peak: Sebastien Loeb, nine times world champion in WRC car rallies, won the race in the "Unlimited" category (basically: everything is allowed!).

For his first appearance, the 39-year-old Alsatian made no mistake: timed in 8’13.878 min, he smashed the record of the event by more than 1 min 30 sec, becoming in the process the first driver to go below 9 minutes at Pikes Peak !

To achieve this feat, Loeb drove a racing car that lived up to the demands placed on him: a four-wheel-drive Peugeot 208 T16, equipped with a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V6 that develops 875 hp (!) for an equivalent weight. Either a terrifying weight / power ratio of "1", which allows it to send the 0 to 100 km / h in 1.8 sec !

Yet accustomed to "crates that grow", the king of the WRC admitted after the race to have been "at the limit everywhere"! For the record, Peugeot’s last victory at Pikes Peak dates back to 1989, when Robby Unser won behind the wheel of a 405 Turbo 16 on a track with a dirt section at the time.. The 20 km of the route having been entirely asphalted this year, this also explains why many records have been broken..

Entered in the "1205" category (two or three cylinders of 1200 cc), the former French hill climb champion (1985), also titled in the French Promosport 750 championship in 1990, owes his victory to his generous gas boost , but also to the fall of his main rivals: Micky Dymond, who went to the mat halfway, and Takahiro Itami who had to give up.

Small surprise by detailing the timesheets: a motorcycle ran faster than the Multistrada 1200 by Bruno Langlois. And not just any type of motorcycle: an American sports car… electric, driven by Carlin Dunne !

After having slammed the pole in front of Micky Dymond, Jeffrey Tigert and Bruno Langlois, this Lightning SuperBike – described by its manufacturer as "the fastest electric in the world" – did it again in the race by slamming a stopwatch in 10’00.694 min, ie a good 20 seconds less than the Ducati !

Advertised for 200 hp and equipped with a braking energy recovery system, this Lightning is the hypersport flagship of the eponymous company, a builder "electrified" based in San Francisco. One of the secrets of his impressive performance at Pikes Peak? Its electric motor, precisely…

Unlike its "thermal" rivals, which can lose between 35 and 50% of their power due to the altitude (the start is at 2862 m, the finish at 4300 m!), The Lightning is insensitive to pressure variations. atmospheric. No loss of "juice" therefore, for the Californian e-superbike! Finally, as long as its batteries hold…

Fortunately for Bruno Langlois (and his 81 competitors entered this year!), The Lightning enters a specific classification – Exhibition Powersports – because it is designed and streamlined like a Superbike, which is prohibited by the Pikes Peak regulations..

The Corsican rider is therefore the official winner of this 2013 edition, to the delight of the Ajaccian dealer Moto Prestige who has prepared his Multistrada 1200S (read in particular our).
