A promising context for the 125

A true social phenomenon, the 125 has been on the rise for several years in France. And the growing congestion of cities, the limits of public transport, the aberrant lack of parking (cars and motorcycles combined), the fight against pollution and the price of gasoline are all factors indicating that sales volumes will remain important.

Our 2008 annual review of the motorcycle and scooter market in France (read) leaves no room for doubt: with 117,844 registrations, the French market for "over 50 cc and less than 125 cc" is closely behind the sales of larger-displacement motorcycles (119,851).

Immediately, sales exploded. So much so that in December 2006, a decree modifying the highway code was adopted, followed by a decree on November 27, 2008: a three-hour training course – provided by an approved establishment or association – is now compulsory for drivers who obtained their B (auto) license after January 1, 2007 (read).

This modification aims to temper the overconfidence of users sometimes discovering two-wheelers for the first time, delighted with the time and money saved by this means (read) but sometimes not very aware of the specificities of their new means of locomotion….
