Practical guides - Practical guide to motorcycle trips in Europe - Belgium: warm and gastronomic

With the opening of its borders, Europe offers a wide variety of landscapes to French bikers. However, if entering another country is easy, the rules of the road and driving may vary. To guide you, Site takes stock.

Belgium: warm and gastronomic

Juxtaposed with the north-eastern part of France, Belgium is an alternative of choice for many tourists. Its gastronomy, its welcome and its historical heritage are all good reasons to go (re) discover the land of beer, chocolate and fries (in Bruge, a "fry museum" has even opened its doors!).

The French biker will also appreciate the varied landscape: the rivers and gorges of the Ardennes are in sharp contrast to the plains that dominate the landscape. The large Ardennes forest, close to the German and Luxembourg borders, and the beaches on the northern coasts which stretch for nearly 60 km, are in themselves an illustration of the geographical diversity of this country. Suffice to say a real happiness for two-wheelers, even if the state of the road network is also experiencing serious variations….

To remember

  • Speed limits: 50 km / h in built-up areas, 90 km / h outside, 120 km / h on motorways

  • Currency: Euro

  • Emergency numbers: 100 (firefighters-SAMU) 112 (all emergencies, regardless of the phone)

  • Helmet compulsory

  • Beware of changes in the quality of coatings (roads and highways)
  • However, the walks will be there without a hitch, especially as a good part of the country speaks French and the legal speeds are similar to France (only 120 km / h on free highways and lit at night). Only road signs conceal a few pitfalls: unlike the Hexagon, green signs indicate highways and blue signs national roads.

Finally, a motorcycle excursion in Belgium cannot be conceived without a detour via the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, one of the oldest and most beautiful tracks in the world, the scene of memorable passes of arms of the Continental Circus on its 14 original km! Still hosting F1 today, Spa-Francorchamps is not approved for Superbike or MotoGP (despite tireless requests). However, he does not forget the motorcycle with in particular the 8 Hours of Spa or the Bikers Classics.
