Road rallies - 76th Ain rally: four Ains for Toniutti! - Departure in the evening, by day!

For the fourth time in a row, Julien Toniutti wins the Ain rally. On the handlebars this time of a Yamaha 450 YZF, the official Yamaha MNC rider of Team 2B / Deletang shines once again on this legendary rally after a fierce race. Story.

Evening departure, daytime !

To respect an end of race time in accordance with the prefectural authorization while accommodating a maximum of specials in the program, the start of the night stage is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The first two specials should therefore be done for all drivers before full night…

But due to a slight delay following a few minor falls during the day, this departure is postponed to 9 p.m. The last starters may not have much light when they reach the stages…

At the time of the first departures it still does not rain, but a few fine droplets warn that it may not last … So, rain tires or not rain tires ?

As during this weekend, for this first lap some start in dry conditions and others in rain … We will advise the first assistance after the first lap !

For my part, this probable arrival of rain does not panic me more than that: I will finally be able to test my new Bridgestone S20 Evo in the wet! Having already been thrilled two years ago by the, I think the evolution of the product should not be less satisfactory.

In Ceignes, the road is barely wet and it is the young Maxime Delorme who has the best time on the handlebars of his KTM 690 SM in 1’27.84, with 25 hundredths ahead of the Yamaha 450 YZF by Julien Toniutti (1’28.09). Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada) obtains the third time in 1’28.29.

In Merpuis it rains for good and Julien sets the record straight by taking the fastest time again in 2’13.78 ahead of Maxime Delorme (KTM 690 SM) with 1.33 seconds more, and the KTM 690 SMR from Florent Derrien less than two tenths !

Back in service, the top pilots this time all opt for rain tires because now it is falling from the ropes !

Second night passage at Ceignes and best pendulum for Florent Derrien (KTM 690 SMR) in 1’35.40, Toniutti (Yamaha 450 YZF) is second in 1’36.51 and Maxime Delorme (KTM 690 SM) third in 1’36 , 95.

On the side-cars side, if the team of the Choda 1130 Benelli Bruno Marlin / Diana Rauch team flies towards the title following the breakage of the Choda KTM RC8 of Herve Laur and Marie-Laure Ferrieu, nothing is less sure for the first place in the category at this rally: on the ten sidecars entered is a certain Albert Choin, the manufacturer of the sidecar Choda himself, who not only knows how to manufacture sidecars but also to pilot them! At the controls of one of his achievements (Choda 1100 ZZR), he sticks here more than two tenths to Bruno … Big fight at Choda !

Rain and wind spoil the party a little on these beautiful small roads during the connections, but I still take pleasure in riding with my Yamaha MT09 set in "B" mode (rain version mapping) and wearing these famous Bridgestone S20 Evo very reassuring with perfect handling in the wet, I take myself for the eagle of the road, with the feeling that nothing can happen to me … until a wild boar family crosses in front of me !

I largely avoid Madame, but cannot react to the unpredictable trajectories of her offspring and collides with one of the two boar who followed suit … I do not fall, but I join the second special of the route death in the soul..

Wednesday, at night, in the rain: Toniutti! Julien also takes pleasure in driving his Yamaha 450 YZF and slams a score of 2’06.02, more than 5 seconds ahead of the second fastest time that goes to Maxime Delorme on his KM 690 SM (2’11.12). Third fastest time for Florent Derrien’s KTM 690 SMR (2’11.42).

On the way back to Cerdon, it’s Galinette Sonia Barbot’s turn to be the victim of a collision, but with a rally driver this time! Morgan Govignon, pilot of the Kawasaki ZX6 n ° 55, falls in front of her by missing out on a slippery braking and Sonia has no other choice but to fall while driving on it.

La Galinette’s Suzuki 1000 GSX-R is a little crumpled, but her assistance will patch her up and she can finish the race.

Last night loop, the little one! In Ceignes, Florent Derrien (KTM 690 SMR) sets the best time in 1’36.01, closely followed by Benoît Nimis who appears at the forefront on the handlebars of his Yamaha 450 YZF and posts 1’36.28. Julien Toniutti (Yamaha 450 YZF) secures his place and is satisfied with the third time in 1’37.29.

Merpuis, the last one! Benoît Nimis finally wakes up and slams the best time on his Yamaha 450 YZF in 2’07.13 ahead of Maxime Delorme (KTM 690 SM) in 2’09.02 and Florent Derrien (KTM 690) in 2’12.00.

Bad plan for Nicolas Pautet, rider of the Kawasaki ZX6 n ° 4, who has one in this last special! No sore for the guy, the Kawa is a little scratched but the lighting wires are torn off and Nico will join the finish blindly following other competitors … He will score 3’30 behind. ‘arrival at Cerdon. Too bad, he made such a comeback in this night stage that it became possible for him to win the Topsport category…

It always rains when we come back to Cerdon, but we were able to appreciate a superb rally with 14 specials without any cancellation … Bravo UM Ain for this organization that lives up to your reputation in the discipline of road rally !

In the end, Julien Toniutti won the Rallye de l’Ain for the fourth time in a row and consolidated his lead in the 2014 championship with a total of 200 points. Christophe Velardi takes second place in the provisional (159 points), Laurent Filleton goes third with 157 points and Florent Derrien fourth with 135 points.

In the constructors’ championship, Yamaha Team Deletang retains the pole ahead of Aprilia Jourdan Motos and KTM Compte-Tours Motos.

See you on July 18 and 19 in Villecomtal (12) for the Rallye du Dourdou, final of the 2014 French road rally championship. !
