In a confined France, while all motorcycle sporting practices are on standby, not all road rallymen are sleeping…

Benoît Nimis, pilot of the National Police Motorcycle Club (CMPN) and holder of the 2019 French champion title in Rallye 2 category (third in the general Elite classification), is focused on his new goal: the Tourist Trophy !

While many of the potential competitors in the 2020 French Road Rally Championship are trying to sate their drive by looking at archival photos and videos of past rallies, others are fine-tuning their machines to be ready to go. when the championship resumes (or rather begins since the 2020 opening event, the Rallye de la Sarthe, has been canceled as the next event, the Rallye de l’Ain). The resumption is now scheduled for July with the Rallye du Dourdou) and Benoît Nimis, 37, is practicing virtually for his new goal.

An all-rounder par excellence, he started off with cross country in his youth before moving quickly to enduro. There he got off to a "false" start on his road rally, but ultimately took third place in the 125cc standings on his real enduro bike, a KTM 125 EXC. Vice-champion of the league (Aquitaine) of the discipline at the beginning of the 2000s and biker of the National Police in real life, Benoît still wants to change discipline (but not yet his profession)…

"After my I thought to stop the rally, then I put that idea aside, still motivated by my goal: to finish in the top three in the championship," he told MNC.

Having achieved this goal (he is now number 3 in the championship), he decides to go "even further" with a participation in the Tourist Trophy. He wanted to officially announce it at the 2020 Rallye de la Sarthe (canceled) awards ceremony, but luckily MNC is here for the news !

With the current crisis and confinement, Benoît is training on the developed by the essential rallyman Julien Toniutti.

"I play while taking my friend Julien as a driver, at least we have the same driving basics: rallying!", Says the Landes driver interviewed by MNC. This will not prevent it from driving "for real" as soon as possible !

To face off against the TT warriors, he will first need to compete in six road (or circuit) races, which was not made possible for him this year due to cancellations. Benoît has therefore planned to take part in the Manx GP, a necessary part of qualifying for the TT (required condition: complete a lap in less than 21 minutes). Until 2021, virtual and maximum physical preparation are on the program !

Followed by his usual sponsors and especially by Eat Salad, Benoît has already obtained a good part of the budget necessary for this adventure, in particular enough to get the 2020 Yamaha R6 that he has chosen to ride on the Isle of Man. To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
