Yamaha R6 in Supersport

On which motorcycles does Julien plan to resume the start of the TT races? "It is not yet validated", he explains to Site, but "surely a Yamaha R6 in Supersport because it is one of the best 600 on the market. For the 1000 category I am still thinking, but saw my last experience in 2018 () I consider that leaving with or without a partner brand doesn’t really change much ".

"I’m doing well, getting better and better", continues the Lyon road rally driver, and "the most important thing for me is to know that I have regained the motivation to go to TT".

“When I left the hospital in March 2019, I had a lot of doubts and I was a bit lost. The compass of my life as a pilot was also broken when the helmet violently hit the handlebars in Peru. Little by little, the weather took its toll. Things got back into place: a press test in the spring, this summer, in August, another press test in the fall, a few runs on the circuit … and There you have it! A few small clicks led to other clicks and motivation returned. So, even if today everything is not perfect, physically I feel good and mentally I am in a good dynamic ".

Two lessons after a fall: learn and get up

"I don’t often fall on a motorcycle, but it has happened to me before and I have already been injured," continues Julien. "I sometimes missed victories, dreams of titles for details. That’s life. Mishaps are things that happen to all sportsmen. The two lessons after a fall, an injury, a failure, etc. are first of all to learn from your mistake and, above all, to get up. Always. And this fall in the Dakar should not be an exception to the rule ".

"At the end of a TT you know what your life is really worth"

On the motivations which animate him for this return to the Tourist Trophy, Toniutti evokes two elements: "the first, it is the desire to return to the Tourist Trophy in itself. The TT is a race which gives life everything what the standards of modern society take away from it: freedom, speed, intensity, the choice to experience things to the full, risk-taking, commitment, increased sensations, the feeling of accomplishment, the courage, the use of the body and the brain to the maximum of their capacities … At the end of a TT, you know what you are able to do and not to do. You have a very clear vision of who you are you are and who you are not, you know what your life is really worth. In TT, a pilot engages EVERYTHING! He is alone on the handlebars. He chooses his own limits, to brake (or not) to accelerate (or not), to start again for a lap (or to stop when he no longer feels it). There are only pilots facing themselves! It is therefore difficult not to think about the TT when you have known u that. So inevitably, this season, the TT was still a little present: I watched the videos of the 2019 races, I wrote a review for a magazine, I was in contact with the other French TT riders and I come to spend a year as a consultant for the development of the next TT Isle of Man video game – Ride on the Edge 2 which will be released in March 2020 ".

"The second element, which is also very important, is the support of almost all my partners. There are some who have been there for more than ten years (Scorpion, Tecnoglobe, Michelin) and who, whatever I do, still follow me. For the others, I initially hesitated to ask them the question, but as soon as we started talking about 2020 with Moraco, Martimotos, TCX … They immediately gave me an agreement in principle . Thanks to them, there is a good basis to start again. Today I feel able to go to TT again, my partners follow, so I’m going! "

Next steps: "roll, roll and roll again"

"The first stage has already started with the resumption of physical training. I have resumed the same sports program that I had followed for the Merzouga in 2018. Then, two or three partners still have to be found to make ends meet. . Finally, it is appropriate to ride a motorcycle. To ride, ride and still ride. Every opportunity to ride a motorcycle, whether in enduro, on the road or on the circuit, will make a good training to prepare the TT "

In addition to the Tourist Trophy, "other really cool projects are under discussion", Julien announces again, "but for the moment nothing is validated, we will see. And for 2020, the TT will remain the priority whatever happens. ".
