Road rallies - Rallye du Dourdou: Derrien winner, Toniutti champion! - 10th Dourdou Rally

The pilot KTM official site Julien Toniutti is the 2013 French rally champion, after a fierce battle until the last stage against Florent Derrien, winner of this tenth Rallye du Dourdou. Story of a hotly contested final…

10th Dourdou Rally

Villecomtal (12) hosted the Dourdou Rally for the tenth time this weekend. A rally masterfully organized by the Moto Club de Villecomtal, with its unusual layout (night stage before the day stage) and much appreciated for its festive side. A beautiful course, already known and very technical specials: a success across the board !

A success especially for the Site pilot Julien Toniutti who successfully completes his program of the seven deadly sins: participate in each of the seven events of on a different KTM model like each of the seven sins (KTM 990 SMT at for envy , KTM RC8 au for lust, KTM 500 EXC Supermotard au for avarice, KTM 690 Duke R au for anger, KTM 990 SMR at for gluttony, KTM 990 Superduke at for laziness and finally to illustrate pride, what better choice than to use the model with which he started this championship with a victory ?

Isn’t it a great demonstration of pride to depart from a rule, that of the seventh different model as announced at the beginning, to put the maximum of chances on his side by opting for a machine that he knows very well? Excellent choice nevertheless, because Julien has just won his second title of French champion "Scratch" of rallies by participating in this final on a KTM 990 SMT !

But nothing was won and the Net Motorcycle Journal rider Julien Toniutti had to face the growing and indisputable talent of the young ASMACO rider Florent Derrien, winner of the last one riding his KTM 690 SM (from 2009 !).

A great fight also for third place in the championship, which was to be contested between the second Site rider Nicolas Pautet (Husaberg 650 FS), Franck Coudert (Ducati 1200 Multistrada) and Bruno Schiltz (KTM 690 Duke): the three pilots stand in a pocket handkerchief at the points before the final test !

And other "settling of accounts" will also take place in certain categories where nothing has yet been decided … It is therefore in the superb Aveyron scenery of the Rallye du Dourdou, and with finally summer weather, that things serious would be concluded…

Plan of the battlefield

Several different loops on the program: a small one of about 25 km and a large one of about sixty kilometers are to be done successively to join the two stages of the course, that of Mouret (3.1 km) and that of Villecomtal (3, 4 km). Two stages to know on the end of the tires to be able to slam good times there, because of their blind lines which can pass very quickly if one does not hesitate to put big gas … But it is better to be sure of itself, because some tight bends will not forgive !

Fortunately, "pre-race" reconnaissance is authorized in Dourdou, with time slots to be scrupulously respected: the recce takes place since Monday between 7 and 11 p.m., a limit not so restrictive as that thanks to the installation of the pilot park in very pleasant pitches such as the former municipal campsite of Villecomtal (which officially became a motorhome area in ordinary times), along the river (the Dourdou!), or the installation for some at "Glamping" (Glamor-Camping ) de Terre Rouge, whose entrance is located at the foot of the Mouret special, in the town of Villecomtal: a magical place with an exceptional welcome, with swimming pool, where it is good to laze around while waiting for authorized recce hours !

The rally begins with a night stage (which will start during the day for planning reasons) of 156 km and will then continue with the day stage (278 km).

A relatively light menu, but full-bodied by starting the race with the night stage. Fortunately, the route is quite simple and the weather is very pleasant.

The start of the night course is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Friday July 19. This Aveyron route starting with a passage through the two specials from the first 15 kilometers, it will imply that all the pilots complete a first lap before night falls … A French rally championship event must include two stages: the contract is respected !

The second night lap is a little different from the first but goes back to the two stages. The night stage (semi-night) therefore has four specials.

Daytime stage: departure at 9:00 am on Saturday morning (some will only have a few hours of sleep …), a passage to the Mouret special, then a long connection of about an hour and a half in two time checks to join the special Villecomtal and end the big loop by returning to Villecomtal.

Second big lap identical to the first (with the two specials), then third lap with a last passage to the Mouret special and return to Villecomtal by a large loop bypassing the Villecomtal special. The daytime stage will therefore have five specials.
