Tourist Trophy - TT 2015: Michael Dunlop will ride on the new R1 - Used YAMAHA

Michael Dunlop, the young man with 11 Tourist Trophy victories, will take on a new Superbike for the fourth year in a row: after the ZX-10R, the CBR1000RR and the S1000RR, Joey’s nephew will try to win the new R1 2015…

We knew it for three months: Michael Dunlop will not ride on the new version of the S1000RR at the Tourist Trophy 2015. Despite his three victories with the BMW in the three 2014 1000 cc events (Superbike, Superstock and Senior TT), the boss of the discipline has indeed been replaced by the charismatic Guy Martin (read).

True free spirit of the Tourist Trophy – and fast as light! -, Michael – not to be confused with his brother William who will ride at Tyco BMW next year alongside "Gaïe Martine", precisely – has just signed a contract with the Milwaukee Yamaha team.

After riding a Kawasaki ZX-10R in and, on the official Honda Fireblade in and on the BMW S1000RR in, the Northern Irish rider will therefore compete in the two TT 2015 Superbike races on a brand new one! Logically, he should also have an R1 for Superstock racing and an R6 for Supersport (he won on CBR600RR in 2014).

"I always said that I would only ride if all the elements were there," recalls a renowned Michael, feared and / or criticized for his outspokenness, "with the Milwaukee Yamaha team, I have both confidence in them motorcycle and the team that will be set up ".

Dale McElveen, commercial director of title sponsor Milwaukee UK, is naturally in awe of grabbing the "Number One" in the discipline. Winner of the 2011 English Superbike Championship with Tommy Hill (on R1, of course!), The team does not want to be satisfied with participating in the TT…

Who wants to promote the Tourist Trophy ?

The Isle of Man government, which currently manages the Tourist Trophy, has just announced its desire to sell its rights (TV, tickets, sponsor, etc.) on its famous motorcycle road race to a private promoter so that it can develop the event and create a world championship !

Launched in 1907 and competed more than a century later on machines of over 200 hp, "the TT is one of the few major sporting events to combine an iconic heritage, exceptional machines and great values", believes Matt Wilson, director of "The Sports Consultancy".

In addition to the 43,000 visitors drained to the island between May and June, the government indicates that last year "the TT was broadcast in 130 countries and produced 402 hours of TV programming. The event was attended by almost 26 millions of people". Could do better, of course … but keeping the spirit of "TiTi"? That is the question.

"We are delighted to welcome Michael", echoes Mister McElveen. "We have seen Michael as an ideal ambassador for a while and getting his signature has reinvigorated our passion for road racing.".

Registered for two years in the Tourist Trophy with big names (Conor Cummins and William Dunlop in 2013, Josh Brookes and Ian Hutchinson in 2014), the Milwaukee Yamaha team obtained as best result a 3rd place in 600 cc and a 5th in 1000 CC.

"Michael Dunlop has proven himself to be the best road racing driver in recent years and his recent record is second to none," said team owner Shaun Muir. In the last two years, in fact, his new recruit has won eight of the ten main races of the "TiTi" !

"We are really convinced that the new Yamaha will prove to be more than competitive on the Isle of Man", assures the big boss of the Milwaukee Yamaha team, "and we have in Michael the rider capable of delivering his full potential".

Who better than Michael Dunlop to win the brand new Iwata Superbike? Nobody. At the height of his 25 years, the "Prince of the Moutain" has already totaled 11 TT victories (12 with his success in 2013 in the Classic TT Formula 1 category) and does not intend to stop there..

Still in sight, his famous uncle Joey: the one and only "King of the Moutain" (26 victories) who would have blown his 63 candles on February 25 without his tragic accident in 2000. That year, Joey still had won three of the five TT races, 23 years after securing his first success. Will little Michael do the same? See you in 2032…

Finally, because an article on the Tourist Trophy cannot be conceived without a video, here is the short but intense excerpt from a Superbike race recorded during the last Tourist Trophy. Hang on because as always with the "TiTi": it dribbles, it pumps, it jumps and it tears. "On a motorbike Michael, it’s you who drives, it’s the Behemoth who yells!"
