Afterwards, it’s Cologne’s turn to announce the cancellation of its motorcycle show. Due to Covid 19, the great German meeting will only take place virtually in a form that remains to be defined.

"After having deliberated at length and in agreement with the Federation of the Motorcycle Industry (Industrie-Verband Motorrad eV-IVM), concept manager of the show, Koelnmesse GmbH has decided to suspend the running of Intermot 2020 initially scheduled for 6 to October 11, 2020 ", announces the organizer who works instead on" a digital format in preparation for the end of the year ".

This may explain this, two large "local" manufacturers had already announced their decision not to participate in Intermot: and, which will not participate in any other show this year.

"Unlike B2B-oriented trade fairs, large events like Intermot welcome tens of thousands of general public visitors daily", emphasizes Koelnmesse GmbH, regretting that "the current guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute (IRK), politicians and authorities cannot be implemented for the moment during major events ".

"With the digital news feed on Intermot, we are creating a communication platform that will give lasting impetus to the industry and also to the motorcycle community", continues the organizer. "Then we will fully focus on the 2022 meeting as planned at the usual frequency. In the future, exhibitions like Intermot will integrate more hybrid elements, that is to say than plus the on-site experience, they will also have a digital reach. All participants now have enough time to prepare for the next edition and to make it once again the meeting place for the international motorcycle community ".

In general, the face of future motorcycle shows will likely change after Covid19: will large and expensive stands still be the norm?
