Trail - 2010 Versys test: Kawasaki corrects its aim - A fun and practical motorcycle

Launched at the end of 2006, the Versys did not meet the expected success. For 2010, Kawasaki has therefore refined its road trail and its communication with a new face, more comfort and an improved all-round motorcycle image.. MNC checks: road test !

A fun and practical motorcycle

More distinguished and sharpened, the look of the new Versys – available in "solar" yellow or black – now corresponds better to its aptitudes and should attract more customers, although this remains very subjective..

The front optic takes advantage of the migration of the sidelights upwards to gain finesse and character, while the new LED tail light is purely and simply borrowed from the new Z1000 !

Not far from this new brake light, in order to facilitate the securing of luggage, lugs appear under the new passenger seat and the new grab handles. These are also supposed to be more convenient, but were not tested during our: we do not let go of the handlebars of the Versys easily. !

To stick to the aspirations of its users, the Versys can – must – finally adorn itself with a few accessories. We will especially remember the Kawa lock that can be housed under the saddle. Unfortunately, no need to try to fit anything else in it: the Versys’ taut lines seriously strain its storage capacity. !

It will therefore be necessary to opt for a top case or suitcases – but the two are not compatible because of their fixing systems – to transport your business or travel belongings, depending on the day of the week or the period of the year.

Likewise, although the standard version of the saddle (845 mm high) does not pose any problem for riders of 1.80 m, many riders may seriously consider purchasing the low saddle (-50 mm in height). and -20 mm in width) for a better grip of the motorcycle in slow maneuvers. Be careful, getting on it will still be difficult for small riders….

The low saddle is of good quality and for good reason: it is signed – discreetly but still signed – "Bagster" … Cocorico! Finally, note for the giants that a high saddle (+ 30 mm or 875 in total) is also available.

If nothing is proposed to improve the protection of the legs – in the event of rain, the front wheel sprinkles copiously with the rider’s shins and the fairing only protects his knees and thighs for a time – some will welcome a new accessory. also beautifully made: the aluminum lever protections, practical in the event of a fall on off-road paths as in the heart of the urban jungle !

Finally, in the radius of the new accessories 2010, we will still find "as soon as possible in dealership", promises Karim Mostafi, press manager at Kawasaki Europe, heated grips and a 12 V socket.

In the end, Kawasaki delivers a 2010 version of the Versys very close to the 2009 … and that’s good! On the bike, apart from the increased protection and reduced vibrations, it is difficult to differentiate the old model from the new while riding: even the dashboards are exactly the same !

To achieve the success it deserves with this nice trail, Kawasaki is therefore relying on a new look and a slightly more dynamic but above all more functional image. This Versys therefore deserves to be known … and especially to be tried, word of Site !
