WSBK - An almost perfect weekend for Haslam! - The pole for Haslam

Author of pole and fastest lap, winner of the first round and second of the second: Leon Haslam was able to tame the Ducatis yesterday at Phillip Island! In Supersport, Eugene Laverty was intractable. Report of the three races.

The pole for Haslam

While the winter tests of the previous weekend had been largely dominated by the Ducatis (read), the testing of the first Australian round this weekend smiled on a Suzuki: that of Leon Haslam, who took pole with a stopwatch from 1’31.229 !

"Pocket Rocket" Leon therefore signs the first pole position of his young career and confirms his status as favorite at the start of the season. The fight in the race promises to be fierce, however, since Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) is 16 thousandths of a second behind Haslam !

These two young people are joined on the front row by Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) and Carlos Checa (Ducati Althea). And it was only a short time before our national representative Sylvain Guintoli (Suzuki Alstare) joined his teammate in the 1st row…

Indeed, the French pilot on his GSX-R n ° 50 missed 4th place on the grid to within 25 thousandths … and 3rd place for 54 thousandths! Syl ‘performance is all the more beautiful: will he be able to confirm in the race? ?

In second row are also Jakub Smrz (Ducati Pata B&G), Jonathan Rea (Honda Ten Kate) and James Toseland (Yam ‘Sterilgarda). On the 3rd row, behind Lanzi (Ducati DFX Corse) and Haga (Ducati Xerox), rise the first Aprilia and Kawasaki piloted respectively by Max Biaggi Tom Sykes.

You have to wait for the start of the 4th row to see the first BMW appear: that of Troy Corser. A very disappointing position for this very experienced local driver and nicknamed in the middle "Mister Pole": he collects 42, a record !

Note that his teammate Ruben Xaus, who left at the fault on Sunday morning during the warm up, chose not to take the start of the two races…

In Supersport, Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Motocard) took the first pole position of the season, setting a new record in the category: 1’33.847! A nice birthday present for the 25 year old Spaniard, who is comfortably ahead of the Honda Ten Kate of Kenan Sofuoglu and Michele Pirro, as well as the Honda Parkalgar of Eugene Laverty.

The other official Kawasaki leads the 2nd row thanks to Katsuaki Fujiwara. It is followed by the Triumphs of David Salom and Chaz Davies and the Honda of Robbin Harms. Fabien Foret (Kawasaki Lorenzini) is in 10th place and Sebastien Charpentier (Triumph Parkingo BE1) in 13th.
