WSBK - Declaration and analysis of the Superbike in Jerez - Analysis of the World Superbike in Jerez

The eleventh round of the World SBK 2015 took place yesterday in Jerez, Spain. To complete our live reports, here are the statements of the Superbike riders as well as the Site analysis of the two Spanish races.

Analysis of the World Superbike in Jerez

Mission accomplished ! After six years of going around in circles on the CBR1000RR Fireblade, oscillating between 9th and 3rd place in the WSBK, alternating hard blows – injuries – and bursts – in Assen in particular, at the home of Ten Kate -, Jonathan Rea ended up winning his first world title !

To do this, all he had to do was change his mount … Thanks to the Kawasaki ZX-10R that he discovered this winter, and thanks to the Spanish team Provec which takes care of the factory Ninjas, Johnny was indeed able to unleash his talent and exploit his full potential.

In less than a season – exactly five races to go! -, the famous n ° 65 of the World Superbike succeeded in winning the n ° 1 plate obtained on the official Aprilia … but installed at the beginning of the year on the Honda Pata, Jonathan’s former motorcycle !

Braked yesterday by a low endurance front tire, the ruthless "JR" (he totaled 12 wins in 20 races when he arrived in Jerez) grabbed his first world crown by finishing off the podium, which was a first for him this season.

Jonathan Rea, a golden pilot

But this poorer result of the year – a fourth place all the same – did not prevent him from celebrating his success in World Superbike, by completing a lap of honor even more slowly than the winner Tom Sykes, with great fanfare. … or rather in large helmets !

Originally from Northern Ireland and currently residing on the Isle of Man – with his wife Tatia and his adorable toddler Jake – Mister Rea paid tribute to the two previous Northern Irish world champions: Brian Reid and Joey Dunlop, crowned in categories TT Formula 2 and Formula 1 – formulas which will be replaced by the current WSBK championship.

Discovering live the wink of his young compatriot, Brian Reid was particularly moved: "congratulations to the new world champion Jonathan Rea! A tear came to my eyes when I saw my helmet come out of the bag. Lovely tribute to Joey and me"he testified.

After donning a helmet in the colors of Reid (red and white) and a second in the colors of Joey (yellow and black), the Kawasaki rider wore a gold version of his own helmet. A golden helmet for a pilot – a dude! – in gold: what could be more logical ?!

The celebration of the coronation of a fifth British rider in World Superbike – after Fogarty, Hodgson, Toseland and Sykes – was however limited since two hours later, Jonathan Rea was due to start the second Spanish round. Objective this time: the manufacturer title !

And here again, despite below average results this season (Rea 4th and Sykes 5th, so no official Kawasaki on the podium for the first time this year!), The Greens collected enough points to ensure the title 2015.

Unlike 2013, the year when Tom Sykes assured Kawasaki his second "pilot" title, 20 years after Scott Russel’s on ZX-7RR, the 2015 season is truly a milestone with the first "constructor" title. "from Akashi’s firm.

First title for Kawasaki too

This success, Kawasaki owes it in priority to Jonathan Rea since as a reminder, the brands engaged in World Superbike collect in each round the points of their best machine only. In the case of Kawa, the best "scorer" is undoubtedly n ° 65.

Overshadowed by "Johnny" and his flamboyant 2015 tour – which is not yet over, there are still places available for the last two dates: October and 20th in Losail! -, Tom Sykes humbly acknowledged Jonathan Rea’s top rider status in his statement last night.

The n ° 66 stressed, however, that his long and hard work – six years at Kawa already – was undoubtedly no stranger to the success of other Kawasaki riders. In addition, his four victories and his three second places behind Rea have allowed his favorite brand to widen the gap on his main opponent this season: Ducati !

But it’s a safe bet that next year,. In the last three meetings, Chaz Davies is the driver who scored the most points: 140 against 103 for Jonathan and 89 for Tom.

The excellent results of No. 7 bode very well for 2016: unlike the Greens who will launch a new Ninja ZX-10R next year, the Reds – from Bologna – will continue their WSBK program with the same 1199 Panigale R…

Rea, new WSBK god hailed by all

But before thinking about next season, the World Superbike teams must remain focused on the end of 2015. To help them, WSBK officials organized an official test day in Jerez on Monday..

The new world champions Rea and Kawasaki therefore had to postpone their big "fiesta" by 24 hours … But from Sunday noon, congratulations fell on all sides on social networks: in pole position naturally, Tatia, Jonathan’s wife…

Max Biaggi, present on site to comment on the races at the microphone of the Italian channel Mediaset, was one of the very first to draw on his Twitter account. Sylvain Guintoli, reigning world champion, naturally went to greet his successor on the grid for the second round.

The legendary Troy Bayliss did not fail to congratulate the 2015 world champion and took the opportunity to start the bets: "Well done Jonathan, you still have a few tricks up your sleeves, I’m sure". Could Johnny become the first WSBK champion to double the stake since Carl Fogarty (1998-1999) ?

Among the many messages, MNC – and JR? – retains those of King Fogarty precisely, of his former team, former Honda Pata family, of the Aprilia and Suzuki teams, of the previous members of the Kawasaki team (Joan Lascorz and Loris Baz), of the twins Alex and Sam Lowes, of his former teammate Leon Haslam or his longtime friend, Irishman Eugene Laverty emigrated to MotoGP, who planned to "drink a few foams with his Northern Irish friends" !

Go the Blues, meet at Magny-Cours !

The rare champion who has not – yet – reacted to the coronation of the "god Rea" is Carlos Checa. Obsessed by the fact that he lived alongside his brother David, the did not follow the races of Jerez. Carlos preferred to underline the "great work and the incredible rise to 2nd place in GMT 94"…, what else ?!

Note that the French endurance riders shone again this weekend: while Matthieu Lagrive, Fabien Foret and Gregory Leblanc ensured the Kawasaki n ° 11 of the SRC team one, Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Étienne Masson offered to the GSX-R1000 n ° 30 from SERT one !

In World Superbike, on the other hand, the "Frenchies" are not at the party … Sylvain Guintoli is forced to cede his throne, Randy de Puniet wants to forget his racing weekend again – Alzheimer is watching him … – and Christophe Ponsson must be satisfied with a small point in the second round. Can do better in two weeks at Magny-Cours ?

Finally, the biggest disappointment among the Blues remains the injury of Yoann Huget Jules Cluzel, injured at the end of the first day of testing … "He had surgery today (Monday, Editor’s note) and then we will start his rehabilitation together, then if all goes well he can get back on the bike before the end of the year for the winter tests", assures Brian Gillen, director of the MV Agusta team..

Officializing the renewal of our dear "Julo" to the post of pillar of the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team in World Supersport, Mister Gillen unfortunately confirms to our colleagues at WorldSBK.com that the "Coq Supersportif" will not compete in either his home event or the grand final night in Qatar…

"Given the type of fractures and the operations he has had, I think it’s a little unrealistic to think of such a quick comeback", he justifies.". It would be taking the risk of doing even more damage and if anything happened it could call into question next season. The only thing we can do now is hit the reset button, continue our efforts and stay focused for next year.".

Returning to only thirteen points behind the leader Kenan Sofuoglu at the end of the Sepang test, the two-time vice-world champion is doomed to watch the Turkish driver race towards his fourth World Supersport title … The relentless domination of the n ° 54 Sunday lets fear a very calm end of the season in WSSP.

In Superbike, on the other hand, Rea, now titled, will ride "unbridled" in France and then in Qatar. Davies, Sykes, Torres and Haslam are warned. See you in two weeks at Magny-Cours to follow the twelfth round of the 2015 Superbike World Championship on MNC: stay tuned !
