Tom Sykes took advantage of a wet track to land the Superpole at the controls of his Ninja. Checa, Smrz and Melandri will also start from the 1st row tomorrow at Misano. Guintoli will start from 8th place.

As in the United States two weeks ago at Miller Motorsport Park, the Superpole session of the San Marino event which takes place this weekend on the Misano Adriatico track has just taken place in the rain (read).

Dominators during the four previous test sessions contested in the dry, Carlos Checa and his Ducati finally had to lose during the final phase known as "Superpole" against Tom Sykes and his Kawasaki…

Only half a surprise since last year at Imola, the Englishman had offered a pole position – Tom’s first in WSBK – at Kawa ‘in the rain as well. The official Greens team therefore risks performing the rain dance all night long. !

If the weather were to rise – it was already the case at the end of Superpole – the podium hopes of Tom the "Grinner" will not vanish definitively: the Ninja n ° 66 had obtained a nice 4th place in the last year in the second round at Imola (Read).

Seventh in the last qualifying session yesterday morning – but 18th in the afternoon free session – we can count on Sykes and his flamboyant style to liven up the start of the race and (hopefully for the show as the n ° 66 is generous and expressive on the track) the ends too !

Second in the Superpole, Checa secured a prime place on the grid despite the tricky conditions … which led him to fall in SP1 (Superpole 1)! Once the limits of its Pirelli have been tested – and even exceeded! -, the leader in the WSBK 2011 championship has perfectly chained the loops and the following sessions.

Although Carlos remains the favorite for victory tomorrow, he will have to beware! Jakub Smrz – the Czech has also tried the track in SP1 – and Marco Melandri for example, complete the first row of the grid: respectively specialist in qualifying and expert in the rain, the two men will tomorrow be serious customers for the podium.

The same goes for his opponents in the second row: the two BMW officials Leon Haslam and Troy Corser – the Croco was injured on the first day, so he is even more dangerous! -, the world champion Max Biaggi and our top driver Sylvain Guintoli are on the lookout…

Ejected from the Superpole 3 for six hundredths of a second, Ayrton Badovini continues his progress and leads the third row, ahead of Eugene Laverty who fell from his R1 in SP1, Jonathan Rea who failed to fall from his CBR1000RR at many times (!) in SP3, and Joan Lascorz more discreet but very present.

Maxime Berger, our second compatriot registered in the World Superbike, will start from 14th place, behind Michel Fabrizio and ahead of Ruben Xaus and Leon Camier. Haga did not have access to the Superpole (17th), nor did Lorenzo Lanzi return to WSBK to replace James Toseland, and Chris Vermeulen on the third official ZX-10R (22nd out of 23).
