WSBK - Mondial SBK 2010: on your marks! - Yamaha

The 2010 World Superbike season opens in two weeks at Phillip Island: Ben Spies having yielded to the sirens of MotoGP, he gives up his SBK throne to whoever wants … No Troy Bayliss in sight either? The way is therefore clear, but for whom ? Forecast.

Yamaha

Ben Spies set off to challenge Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa, the official Yamaha Superbike team found itself without a leader. And without "scavenger" either since Tom Sykes went to see if the grass was greener at Kawasaki…

Yamaha 2010 training is therefore new … but not inexperienced for all that! Retaining its fetish No. 35, Cal Crutchlow – world No. 1 in 600 cc, please – goes up in displacement. "Re-mounted" to tell the truth, since the Briton played two seasons of British Superbike in 2007 on Suz ‘and in 2008 on Honda.

The 1000 cc therefore, Cal already knows! Ninth then third in the English SBK championship, it only took him one year to take the world title in Supersport, collecting on tracks that he did not know – for the most part – 10 poles, 10 podiums including 5 victories !

It is impossible not to make the parallel with Ben Spies, also titled the year of his arrival in the category. Crutchlow, who some foresaw in Moto2 this season, will he experience the same meteoric rise? Not easy…

Indeed, this year a double Superbike champion is making his comeback: it is obviously James Toseland, former holder of Tech3 in Grand Prix. !

World champion on Ducati in 2004 then on Honda in 2007, "Dji-Ti" is a big favorite this season. Cooled – or scalded? – by his inconclusive experience in MotoGP, the n ° 52 returns with the firm intention to restore his image and recover "his" Number One plate.

To do this, Toseland will benefit from an R1 with Cross Plane setting – like his old M1 which he left in the care of Spies – which has largely proven its worth. !

Enough to give him heart to the work and put the bit of pressure he needs to the one who has already obtained in the SBK World Cup no less than 57 podiums including 16 victories, 4 poles and 2 best times in the race out of a total of 168 races contested.
