The schedule that GMT94 members told Site at the end of last week is confirmed: competition will resume at the end of July in Jerez, in the wake of MotoGP. Another good news: there will be two Supersport races per weekend ! Details.

By talking to Jules Cluzel and his boss Chritophe Remi Guyot (!) Last Thursday during their third and last test day on the Carole circuit (review our), Site had a preview of the dates of the next World Superbike events. They are now official !

Five months after its magnificent opening on the other side of the earth (in Australia on the fabulous Phillip Island circuit), the World Superbike Championship will finally be able to resume: it will be on the Jerez circuit the first weekend August.

Unlike MotoGP, which will have competed in quick succession two Grand Prix on the same Andalusian circuit the two previous weekends, the WorldSBK will travel from August 7 to 9 on the neighboring circuit of Portimao in Portugal. Then three Spanish events will take place in Aragon (two weekends) and Barcelona.

“Restarting the season in Spain is very appropriate, given the difficulties the country faced during the pandemic. To date, the only other event confirmed on the calendar – still very provisional – of the WorldSBK 2020 is the one scheduled for early October in Magny-Cours (France). A week later, the Superbike and Supersport riders may have to travel to San Juan (Argentina). Perhaps…

The only Italian event (since the cancellation of Imola) is scheduled for early November in Misano but must also be confirmed. Three other meetings in Great Britain, the Netherlands and Qatar are still in the pipes … blocked? The answer soon: stay connected !

A record number of points in World Supersport ?

What is certain, however, is that the World Supersport pilots – in the intermediate "600" category as well as the youngsters in the "300" – will have the right to an additional race on Saturday! Taking into account Australia and the eight other events currently scheduled, 425 points will therefore be at stake this season in WSSP. Much more than in previous "normal" seasons !
