Second in the championship just behind Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam takes a slight advantage over the n ° 65 by signing the Superpole of the third WSBK 2015 event organized this weekend in Aragon (Spain). Two Britons complete the first row: Chaz Davies and Tom Sykes.

At the start of the 2015 World Superbike season, visits to superb circuits are linked to the four corners of the planet – Phillip Island, Buriram and Aragon – but the top riders remain the same! Indeed, this afternoon under the Spanish sun, the British were still ahead…

While we could reasonably bet on one of the two Ninjas – Jonathan Rea, author of the first two poles in 2015 or Tom Sykes, poleman at Aragon last year – or on Chaz Davies – best time in free practice -, c ‘Leon Haslam finally won in the final phase of the Superpole (SP2).

The performance of the new Aprilia rider is literally exceptional: although he is attacking his ninth World Superbike season (186 starts, 33 podiums and 4 wins), Haslam only scores the second pole of his career, after that of 2010 in Australia..

As in the first two matches this year, the front row at Aragon is 100% British. By completing the lap of the circuit barely slower than Leon (33 thousandths of a second separate them!), Chaz Davies (Ducati Aruba.it) secured second place on the grid.

Leading qualifying last year ahead of his former teammate Loris Baz, Tom Sykes this time finished in third position but can be satisfied with having beaten – finally! – his new teammate Jonathan Rea. Will "Major Tom" eclipse "Johnny" in the race tomorrow as well? Suspense.

Fourth therefore, the Ninja n ° 65 is ahead of a Spanish rider … But it is not the formidable rookie Jordi Torres: the "Spanish Elvis" on the second Aprilia Red Devils will start from third row ahead of Alex Lowes (Suzuki Voltcom Crescent) and Nico Terol (Ducati Althea).

No, the fifth place on the grid was won by the impressive Xavi Fores, within the Ducati works team. On his "real" lands, the 2014 IDM (German Superbike Championship) champion is causing trouble on the grid and could do the same tomorrow on the finish line…

Just behind n ° 112 is Ayrton Badovini, new member of the BMW Italia team (instead of Sylvain Barrier, read our). After a promising 2014 half-season riding an unapproved BB3, the n ° 86 has the firm intention of proving that he has his place in this championship..

The last drivers of Superpole 2, Leandro Mercado (Ducati Barni), Michael van den Mark (Honda Pata) and David Salom (Kawasaki Pedercini) will start from the fourth row … ahead of our world champion Sylvain Guintoli, who remained stuck in SP1 !

Always more efficient in the race than in qualifying, our "Number One" will still have to take a hell of a start on his CBR1000RR (from 13th place) to grab the lead car and claim big points … Our Frenchie preferred will be accompanied on the fifth row by Leon Camier (MV Agusta) and Niccolo Canepa (EBR Hero).

Author of the 17th fastest time in SP1, our second compatriot Christophe Ponsson will have the Top 15 in his sights tomorrow, synonymous with points. The young Frenchman scored his very first in his second World Superbike race. Hopefully he will score more this Sunday !

Finally, the disappointment is greater for Randy de Puniet who qualifies at a distant 19th place, between Roman Ramos (Kawasaki Go Eleven) and Santiago Barragan (Kawasaki Grillini). The transfer of the Magneti Marelli electronics unfortunately risks limiting the GSX-R1000 again tomorrow … But "the day after tomorrow", everything should be better for our n ° 14 as well as for his teammate Lowes !
