Statements from the first Superbike race

Cal Crutchlow, 1st: "One of the greatest satisfactions with this victory is to reward all the efforts made by Yamaha. It was not an easy task, we have worked hard all year round and I am absolutely delighted to win a home race. !"

Jonathan Rea, 2nd: "Cal was just a little faster than me in the race, two tenths per lap on average … My bike did very well but I think we were a bit let down by the tire. It’s good to get back on the podium and I have a lot of fun racing at Silverstone".

Leon Haslam, 3rd (then 4th): "It was a hard fought battle, Johnny and Cal had a good pace all weekend. I tried to catch up with them a bit but let go at the end. It was a bit frustrating because they seemed to be having a good time! We used a different engine for the second run, but everything else was unchanged, including the tires. However, this time the grip was completely different and I really had to fight to stay in the top 4. On the last lap I fought well against James. He passed me, but I was determined to come back and that’s what I did. On the last turn he tried to get me outside at the start of the straight and hit me, breaking my seat back and my potty rack! It was a bit tense but luckily we stayed on our bikes and crossed the finish line. It was a tough end to a tough race, like the first. I was happy to finish ahead of Max. I would have preferred to earn more points, but that’s how it is".

Michel Fabrizio, 4th (then DNF): "As expected, the British pilots had their teeth in their teeth today. I didn’t expect Haslam to overtake me at this point and after that I couldn’t do anything. However, I am quite happy with this 4th place. In the second heat, my rear tire was moving a lot and as I had lost a lot of ground, I went to the pits to change my tire. Back on the track, I realized that it hadn’t changed anything. I was off the points so I pulled out of the race".

Max Biaggi, 5th (then 6th): "I’m pretty happy with this weekend, even if these places are not the ones I could have obtained. It was difficult here and what was most difficult was adapting my RSV4 to the bumpy Silverstone track. In the second heat, I finished sixth behind five English riders who were racing in their garden with exceptional motivation".

Troy Corser, 10th (then DNF): "To be honest, we are disappointed with our weekend. We came here with high hopes but we really struggled with the grip. We tried a lot of things to improve it but nothing seemed to work. The only time I felt good on the bike was in the second round, but unfortunately I fell quickly … In the first round, I couldn’t transmit the power to the ground: I felt the front going into the Most of the turns and I almost fell several times! We think we have a good idea of what caused the issues this weekend so we need to move forward, work hard and focus on racing in Germany.".
