At the end of each World Superbike event, in addition to our reports of the Superbike and Supersport races, Site invites you to relive the weekend on video with the riders’ statements and the editorial staff’s analysis. !

Statements from the first Superbike race

Jonathan Rea, 1st: "We were really lost on Friday but we worked a lot the next night and came back the next day with a competitive bike. We turned that into a victory: we widened the gap and controlled the race, all the credit goes to the team that managed to turn it around.".

Carlos Checa 2nd (then DNF): "We got off to a good start and fought with Haga who fell in front of me. Then I tried to follow Jonathan, but he was very strong and I couldn’t do anything until the end. We have done our best and are quite happy with the pace and the work done this weekend.".

Cal Crutchlow, 3rd (then 4th): "The first race was really good, I was happy to be back on the podium, especially starting from 10th on the grid: it was not great in the first corner, but I worked the best I could. I was able for Yamaha Sterilgarda. I was also happy with my second race even though I was disappointed not to get on the podium but I think with a better tire we could have got there. It was good for the championship, we are getting a bit closer to Checa and I hope we can continue that in Imola".

Max Biaggi, 4th (then 5th): "It is shameful. We struggled all weekend with the grip and the vibration issues. I know I can be much faster. Indeed, in Superpole with the soft tires we had very good lap times. But what matters is how to deal with these difficulties. We brought back some important points from a championship point of view. There are only two races left and we are ahead. The finish line is near, but we must not make the mistake of underestimating our opponents who, even today, have shown their determination to exploit all the missteps we make.".

Tom Sykes, 5th (then 7th): "We have done well here at the Nurburgring this weekend, both the team and myself, and I am very happy with how everything went. I just wish I could have held up a bit more in the second race but overall I can’t complain as it is our best result of the year. We came here with a good foundation and didn’t need to make any big changes, just a few adjustments. I was able to focus only on tweaking the bike and choosing the best tire combination to get my final setup. In the end, it was a massive effort from the team and Kawasaki and while I want to thank everyone, I have to give an extra thank you to Johnny my team leader, and Javier from Showa, they gave me the best set this weekend, on which I was able to shine during the races and leave with some good results for Kawasaki".
