At the end of each World Superbike event, in addition to our reports of the Superbike and Supersport races, Site invites you to relive the weekend on video with the riders’ statements and the editorial staff’s analysis. !

Analysis of the SBK World Cup at the Nurburgring

With six podiums, including two victories in the last six races, Jonathan Rea has established himself as the strong man at the end of the season. With 288 points on the clock against 224 for Carlos Checa, the Irishman even secures 3rd place in the 2010 championship.

Without his underperformance at Misano, Miller and Monza, Johnny would fight without worry for the "title" of vice-champion, or even that of Champion ?! Unfortunately for him, his Honda CBR1000RR is not known to be versatile … and to see the results of his teammate Max Neukirchner, one could even doubt his simple competitiveness. !

At home, Max did not make a strong impression: while his colleague at No.65 chained two big perfs and collected 45 points, the poor No.76 from Ten Kate only managed to score a tiny point during of its second outing on Sunday…

Unlike the English, the German public – who do not have their language in their pocket! – was therefore not entitled to his "Mad Sunday ‘"! As a reminder at Silverstone, the two podiums were made up 100% of British drivers (read). But last Sunday at the Nurburgring, even the BMWs could not do anything.

Certainly in the Superstock 1000 category, the phenomenal Ayrton Badovini / S1000RR couple continued their 2010 route without fail this weekend: eight wins out of eight races! But in the Superbike category, the Behème is more behind.

The only one to interfere in a Ducati Top 5 on Friday and at the head of testing on Saturday before the Superpole race, Troy Corser started Sunday from a distant 14th place on the grid … Overthrown by Haslam in the first round, the Australian – slightly damaged in the right arm – preferred to ensure in the second (12th).

His team-mate Ruben Xaus obtained better results (7th and 9th), but this only partially consoled the German fans who came to hear "das Deutschlandied" sounding. It would have been a great first for the Munich manufacturer, still looking for a victory in SBK with its new "S mille"…

We can bet that the S1000RR will not wait for "its" 2011 test to achieve its first success. After all, it was in Misano that the German enjoyed the luxury of signing her first pole and climbing for the first time on the podium. Would she dare to win the next round at Imola? ?

In three weeks, however, we will wait more firmly for the Roman Emperor, ready to write a new page in the history of motorcycle sport … At home, Max Biaggi could win the 2010 Superbike world champion title, the very first for an Italian driver since the creation of this discipline in 1988 !

Unable to keep pace with the best this weekend, Max showed self-sacrifice and settled for 4th and 5th places. In doing so, the Italian driver manages to maintain a very comfortable lead in the championship: 58 points over Haslam, now the only driver who can mathematically counter him..

In the opposite extreme to n ° 3, n ° 41, in the headlines in the championship, made us happy to come back to fight at the forefront! Four months after his only victory of the season in Valencia, Noriyuki Haga has reappeared more motivated and incisive than ever…

Admittedly, this ardor and this regained niac earned him a fall in the first round but Nitro Nori caught up very well in the second round, showing to those who doubted that the Japanese rider still knew how to wring the right grip effectively. !

You had to see him grab the brakes ten meters after everyone else at the start of the second heat to interfere between Checa and Biaggi, or shave as close as possible to the inside wall of the last corner to clinch his second victory of the year. Does the saying "never two without three" exist in Japan ?

In any case, it was time for the Japanese rider to talk about him again – for good – in the paddock: the 2010 season almost folded, many players only have eyes for 2011! We already note for example the departure of Cal Crutchlow for MotoGP within the Tech3 team and the arrival to replace him by a certain Marco Melandri (read)

Similarly, Kawasaki was particularly proud to unveil its ZX-10R Ninja at the start of the weekend for next season (read). An announcement that could well have galvanized the green troops: Tom Sykes had his best races of the season on Sunday, finishing 5th, 17.3 seconds behind Rea in the first round, then 7th, 16.8 seconds behind Haga !

Masters of the German ring, Rea and Haga will put their "titles" on the line on September 25, during the 12th round of the 2010 WSBK season in Imola. Aprilia, Max Biaggi, but also Ducati, Fabrizio, Lanzi and Scassa as well as many transalpine teams will try to shine in front of their public. Stay connected !
