We suspected – very – strongly: Max Biaggi and his RSV4 Factory will be hard to beat on the Monza circuit! Certainly Leon Haslam gave him a hard time, the English and his official BMX taking the lead in the two qualifying sessions yesterday and today, but the Roman Emperor had the last word this afternoon during the Superpole.

It was in the final phase of the Superpole that the n ° 1 of the World Superbike literally disgusted his opponents by going alone below the 1 ’42: 1 ‘41.745 mark to be exact, a time which earned him the track record. , the respect of his peers, the hurray of the public, the adoration of his fans, but also and above all the first position on the starting grid of the two races on Sunday.

Relegated to more than half a second from Biaggi, Eugene Laverty still places his R1 in 2nd position. Third on the grid in Assen three weeks ago, the young Irishman had not found his way to the Dutch Top 5. Will he be able to do so on the land of his official Yamaha team? ?

Two other manufacturers complete the first row: Honda with the CBR1000RR n ° 4 of Jonathan Rea and BMW with the S1000RR n ° 11 of Troy Corser. The two men hold each other in a pocket square, and we hope the same will be true in the race !

We can also count on the plots of the second line to ensure the show – we dare not write "beat Biaggi", so much does Max seem promised to a second double after that of 2010! -: Marco Melandri, Leon Haslam, Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga can all claim the podium.

This goal will be harder for the next four men to achieve. Author of a superb 9th place on "his" grid, the Italian Ayrton Badovini impressed during the practice sessions but facing the category leaders, the rookie probably still lacks a bit of experience..

Leon Camier, Max Biaggi‘s teammate, will have to make an excellent start and intelligently negotiate the first chicane – beware of traffic jams or even crashes just after the wheel lights have gone out … – to hook up the right wagon.

As for Carlos Checa and Sylvain Guintoli, their Ducati 1098R will undoubtedly lack the horsepower to stay in contact with the very best: during testing, the twin cylinders returned 15 km / h to the Aprilia and a dozen to the other 4-cylinders in line….

The Spaniard in particular will have to be reasonable and be content to limit the damage: in the provisional classification, he has this Saturday 43 points ahead of Biaggi, 47 over Melandri, 53 over Rea and 64 over Haslam. Sunday night, he should remain at the top of the standings, but most of those gaps will have greatly reduced !

Failed during the first phase of Superpole, the two official Kawasaki riders – Vermeulen did not ride after his fall on Friday – inherit distant 13th and 14th places on the grid. Our second representative, Maxime Berger, participated for the first time in the Superpole event: he lost for 8 thousandths against specialist Jakub Smrz and will start from 16th position.
