WSBK - WSBK 2015: a new event in Thailand ... at night? - The arrival of a new circuit

The 12 World Superbike stages performed this year have been repeated for the 2015 season. In addition, a thirteenth event is scheduled for the end of March on the brand new circuit of Buriram (Thailand)… which has night lighting.

The arrival of a new circuit

The 2015 Superbike World Championship calendar will be published on November 18, but the Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) are not resisting the "pleasure to announce the arrival of a new circuit" !

This is the Chang International Circuit – named after the famous elephant beer – located in Buriram, about 300 km east of Bangkok (capital of Thailand). Scheduled from March 20 to 22, 2015, this event brings to 13 the number of stages scheduled for the WSBK 2015 – there will be "Maximum 15", according to the FIM.

"Following a recent circuit inspection", the DWO and FIM representatives have indeed"approved the homologation of the circuit and were able to verify that the track and the infrastructures were ready to receive the WSBK"… Not only in 2015, but for the next two years as well.

The readers of Site – who, as everyone knows, are a little more curious than the others – will have noted thanks to the that the track is 4554 m long, that it is composed of 12 turns, that it turns in the direction of clockwise … and equipped with powerful projectors !

"Mr Danaisiri Chanwittayarom, BRIC project manager, confirmed that the circuit has implemented the track lighting system and has already tested it", say the Thais."All types of races, world or national rank, can therefore be held.".

Day Night. Day Night. Day !

Contacted by Site, the FIM informs us however that the Superbike races were not scheduled at night: "as always, the times can be adapted to match the TV format, but the races will be well contested during the day".

Even during the day, the event will retain its original, exotic and highly strategic character: "We are delighted to announce the introduction of a Thai round on the calendar and this is clear proof of our ambition to reach new key markets for the motorcycle industry", rejoices Javier Alonso, Executive Director for Dorna WSBK.

The president of the Chang International Circuit, Newin Chidchob, welcomes the arrival on his land of the World Superbike. It will be the first international competition for his teams, but the president is confident: "last October, the circuit hosted the Buriram United Super GT: 131,000 spectators and hundreds of media came to cover the event", reports the big boss.

For his part, the President of the FIM, Vito Ippolito, recalls that "one of the objectives of the FIM is to have races on all continents". One year after Malaysia, Thailand (24th country to host the WSBK) has increased the visibility in Asia of a championship which does not include a Japanese event (!) And is struggling to penetrate the Indian subcontinent (read ).

"The Asian people are very fond of motorcycle racing", insists the Venezuelan leader,"and to have Thailand on the 2015 calendar is a real honor, an achievement for all of us and something very important for the sport !"

This Thai event finally promises to be grandiose for Ratthapark Wilairot, the first driver of Thai nationality to climb a world podium (during the). Like Kenan Sofuoglu during the only race of, the n ° 14 will make a point of honor to shine – to win? – the SSP race on Sunday, March 22, 2015. To follow as usual almost directly on the Site, of course: stay connected !
