The threatening sky did not prevent Davies from shining this Sunday in Imola! The Ducati rider n ° 7 even won a victory clearer than that of yesterday, still against Rea and Sykes. Chaz is therefore slowly going back to the championship. "Ma! Chi va piano va sano …"

Second Superbike Imola race 2016

Chaz Davies got off his pole perfectly, followed by Giugliano who got a little lost in Tambulero and let Jonathan Rea, Tom Sykes and Lorenzo Savadori pass. Lowes, Reiterberger, Hayden, Camier and Van den Mark complete the Top 10. MV Agusta n ° 2 climbs to 8th position in Rivazza before completing the 1st lap.

Davies started the second lap three-quarters of a second ahead of the two factory Kawasaki n ° 1 and n ° 66. Savadori is dropped one second from the Ninjas and must above all protect himself from Giugliano who lodges in his aspiration in the 3rd lap, closely followed by Lowes…

At the back of the peloton, Torres puts pressure on Van den Mark and overtakes the Dutchman in the middle of the 3rd lap. The other Honda rider, Hayden, is a good second ahead of the BMW # 81 of the "Spanish Elvis". The MotoGP champion himself rides a few lengths behind Reiterberger and Camier.

More domineering than yesterday, Davies has more than two seconds ahead at the end of the 5th lap. Rea and Sykes are still riding in close formation but the 2013 champion does not unleash any attack on the defending champion, allowing the two teammates to outrun the chase group of Savadori, Giugliano and Lowes.

Giugliano dives under his compatriot’s RSV4 at the very end of the 6th lap to settle in fourth place. Reiterberger, Camier, Hayden and Torres make up a second group in which the action is also in full swing. But it is Rea who offers the spectators the most beautiful spectacle !

At the end of the final chicane, the Northern Irishman bites off the track … The rear wheel of his Kawasaki slips outside the vibrators and suddenly hangs up on the tarmac: the Ninja sets off in an impressive series of jumps who fail to unseat "Johnny".

Posted just behind Rea, Sykes cannot take advantage of this violent gap and remains behind "Number One". Davies saw his lead increase by one second: barring an incident or a big mistake, the n ° 7 Ducati won the race. The observation is confirmed when Rea loses again half a second in a single sector: Jonathan struggles to drive his Kawa…

Five seconds behind the two Kawasaki, Giugliano gradually isolated himself: on the 13th lap, he was three seconds ahead of the British Lowes and Camier. Savadori lost his footing at the end of the race and could not prevent the return of Jordi Torres. A good second behind Jordi, Hayden in turn overtakes Reiterberger.

In the next loop, Camier delighted his Italian fans by hoisting the only MV Agusta of the WSBK championship in the Top 5. The n ° 2 overtook his compatriot on the Yamaha n ° 22 by coming out very hard from Acque Minarelli and by braking a little later and louder at the entrance of the Variante Alta.

With four laps to go, Torres rejoins Savadori: much faster than the Italian, the Spaniard easily overtakes his opponent under the brakes of Acqua Minareli. The BMW driver n ° 81 climbed back to 7th place but could not hope for better because Lowes is three seconds in front of Jordi … and turns faster than him !

In front, Davies keeps his five seconds ahead of the inseparable Rea and Sykes. The n ° 66 is however not able to attack the ruthless "JR" visibly put in difficulty by his machine but able to precede his teammate of a big half second.

Isolated, nearly 13 seconds behind his prodigious teammate, Davide Giugliano improved his performance by one place in the first round. Ditto for Leon Camier who hoisted his MV Agusta to a superb fifth place. The last lap goes off without a hitch and confirms this ranking.

Double winner at Imola, Chaz Davies takes 10 points from leader Jonathan Rea and is now 35 lengths behind (186 points against 221). Tom Sykes, on the other hand, still loses ground against his two main opponents (154 pts).

Victim of a violent highside in Superpole, Sylvain Guintoli attended this second round from the pits. Our 2014 world champion does not score any points this weekend and comes out of the World Top 10, closed by his teammate Alex Lowes.

Next distribution of points for World Superbike (and Supersport) riders: in two weeks at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. The three races will again be followed on the Site, in qusi-direct. Stay connected !
