Sykes has just won his fifth pole this season on the Marco Simoncelli circuit. Second on the grid, Rea is his only opponent in the championship to be well placed. Superbike races promise to be lively !

If the big blue is announced for tomorrow, the skies of the Adriatic were much more teasing this afternoon for the Superpole event! Indeed, three quarters of an hour before the opening of the pits, a heavy downpour hit the Marco Simoncelli circuit (read the box below)…

The Misano circuit renamed

The new name of the Misano international circuit was presented this morning: it pays tribute to MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli, who died on October 23 during the Malaysian Grand Prix. His father Paolo was present at the conference which officially linked the name of the circuit to that of his son.

Aldo Drudi Himself is responsible for updating the logo: under the "MWC" of the Misano World Circuit, is now the name of Marco Simoncelli, where the double "l" evokes the red lines of the helmet by Super Sic.

Declared "Wet", the Superpole was therefore divided into two sessions – instead of three usually in the dry -, but was finally contested under a clear sun and on slick tires therefore !

Once again – a fifth time this season on seven occasions! -, it is the Kawasaki n ° 66 which shows the fastest and obtains the pole position for the two races of tomorrow. Shy at the start of the weekend (10th fastest Friday), Tom Sykes knew how to increase the pace and presents himself as the man to beat tomorrow.

Installed in second position on the grid, Jonathan Rea should give him a hard time. The Honda rider will have to be careful not to let his compatriot slip too far at the start of the race in order to heckle him – Johnny knows how to fight … – in the last laps !

The first line is completed by two second Italian knives: Ayrton Badovini on his BMW Italia n ° 86 and David Giugliano on his Ducati Althea n ° 34. Worn by their public, we can expect everything from these two pilots tomorrow afternoon !

At the head of the second row will be installed the gun tower specialist, Jakub Smrz (Ducati Liberty Effenbert). His two pursuers should however be more comfortable in the race: the British Leon Haslam (BMW Motorsport) and Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing).

True "Sunday bikers" – understand race days rather than test days – Haslam and Laverty will do anything to join Rea and Sykes at the forefront…

Falling eight minutes before the checkered flag appeared in Superpole 2, Sylvain Guintoli inherited 8th place. His Ducati, whose front suddenly gave way in a right turn, fortunately fell on its side, will not require any major intervention from the mechanics to be ready tomorrow….

The first phase of the Superpole saw some big names fail beyond 8th place. If it is not surprising to see Matteo Baiocco – guest rider on Ducati – or Loris Baz – replacement for Joan Lascorz on official Kawa ‘- to rank respectively in 9th and 11th places, Max Biaggi disappoints much more with his 10th time !

Marco Melandri, dominated by his compatriot and colleague from BMW Italy Michel Fabrizio, will also have to make a good start from his 13th place to aim for the podium … or victory, as he managed to do two weeks ago in the States -United by taking off from 9th place ?!

Leon Camier posts his Suzuki in 14th place, just behind the BMW n ° 33 which could be very useful to him to move up the peloton … The Englishman is ahead of two Ducatis: that of the young rookie Lorenzo Zanetti (Ducati Pata Racing) and that of the world champion Himself (Ducati Althea) !

After twenty minutes of the first run, Carlos Checa was in 16th place. We naturally expected the reigning world champion much higher on the grid. Contrary to his habit therefore, the Toro n ° 7 will have to push his Ducati upside down from the start of the race to score the most points tomorrow. !

However, less than a second from the best qualifying time achieved by Tom Sykes (0.999 seconds exactly!), Maxime Berger did not have the chance to compete in the Superpole. He will start tomorrow from a distant 17th place on the grid.

Our third Frenchman and his Ducati 1198 will be followed by the still diminished John Hopkins Suzuki n ° 21. The Ducati n ° 59 of Niccolo Canepa and the official Honda of Hiroshi Aoyama – last GP 250 champion, but still far from the count on 1000 cc 4-stroke – complete the 4th rank.

The last line is made up of Chaz Davies and his private RSV4, very impressive to Miller and much less comfortable on the Italian track, the two Pedercini Kawasaki riders (Davide Salom and Leandro Mercado) and Federico Sandi (Grillini Progea BMW).

See you tomorrow, then, to follow almost live – just the time to type on the keyboard! – the two Mondial Superbike races and the Supersport race. Stay connected !
