WSBK - WSBK: teams, drivers and challenges for the 2011 season - Suzuki: a GSX-R against all, all against one!

Once again this year, Site will follow the exploits, setbacks, fights and victories of the World Superbike for you. The 2011 season begins February 26 in Australia, but let’s take advantage of the official tests in Portimao to make the presentations !

Suzuki: a GSX-R against all, all against one !

Despite the lack of support from the factory – which led him to change teams in 2011 – Leon Haslam had a superb 2010 season riding the GSX-R 1000. But his 14 podiums – including three victories – and his final second place in the championship does not matter much to the decisions of the big Suzuki bosses…

Also this year, the Alstare team will enter only one motorbike, piloted by the Italian Michel Fabrizio. After three years of good and loyal service within the official Ducati Xerox team, the Hurricane Mich ‘will try its luck on the last GSX-R 1000 in service.

This is in fact a homecoming for the Italian driver, since he was driving a "Gex" prepared by the same team of Francis Batta in the European Superstock 1000 Championship … in 2003! That year, Fabrizio had won four times, securing his first – and only for the moment – major title before leaving to ride in Moto GP with the WCM team and join the WSBK on Honda.

At the end of October 2010 at Magny-Cours, during his reunion with Suz ‘, Fabrizio was ecstatic: "I’m a little surprised at how easily I got used to the Suzuki after three years of riding a twin. A twin requires a completely different styling than a 4-cylinder, so jumping on a "four" and being comfortable so quickly is a good sign.".

Slowed down by the rain – like the other pilots – in his preparation for the last tests of 2010 in Portimao (read), Michel is counting on the two series of official tests – currently in Portimao and then in mid-February at Phillip Island – to find good settings and attack the 2011 season … as strong as Haslam in 2010 ?

A second GSX-R 1000 will line up for the opening round in Australia: that of Team Yoshimura, who made a brief appearance last year at Monza. The Japanese team were also supposed to participate in the last rounds of 2010 at Imola and Magny-Cours, but their insufficient budget had forced them to cancel at the last moment. In 2011, we could find the Japanese Gex on other events. To confirm !
