WSBK - WSSP 2013: MV Agusta back in competition! - Second hand MV AGUSTA

MV Agusta will make its comeback in 2013 in the motorcycle speed world championship, accompanied by the leading team ParkinGO! The two entities are linked for three years in order to relaunch the prestigious sports record of the Varese firm….

The signing of a three-year contract between the MV Agusta factory and the Parkingo team took place on the very day of the late Claudio Castiglioni’s birthday, who would have celebrated his 65th birthday yesterday without this damn crab (read)…

"Given the passion for racing inherited from my father, this decision is for me filled with emotion", underlines the president of MV Agusta and son of Claudio, Giovanni Castiglioni."I can’t wait to take on these challenges, which we will try to overcome".

A new Triple on the track

The Supersport class accepts not only 600 cc 4-cylinder, but also 675 cc 3-cylinder and 750 cc twin. Since the departure of Ducati at the end of 2002, only Triumph has tried between 2008 and 2010 to undermine the domination of the 600 Japanese with its Daytona 675.

The last season has been the most successful for the English, their driver Chaz Davies – already supervised by the Rovelli team! – finishing in 4th place in the world championship. Will Varese’s firm do better than Hinckley’s? Suspense…

The objective is nowhere displayed, but it is obvious: to revive the fabulous winning machine that was MV Agusta and to register a 38th world title on the brand’s charts, its 37th now dating back almost 40 years (1974 in 500cc with Phil Read) !

To do this, the Varese firm is banking not only on its most recent sports car, the F3 and its Tripistoni 675, but also on one of the sharpest private teams in recent years: Parkingo, managed by Maestro Giuliano Rovelli…

Instigator of the – too short – return of the official R6 to World Supersport in 2011, the Italian won the same year the drivers (Chaz Davies) and constructor (Yamaha) titles in the 600 cc category, then rode with his men, rider included, in World Superbike last year.

The year 2012 was no less brilliant for Rovelli and his Welsh colt since during his first season in WSBK, "Chazie" climbed the podium four times, including one on the top step. The "title" of best rookie in his pocket, Davies was able to seize the keys of the second official S1000RR (read).

For its part, the Parkingo team therefore decided to embark on a brand new project in 2013: "my brother Paolo and I are aware of the importance of MV Agusta’s return to the World Sprint Championship and are extremely pleased to join our forces by concluding this agreement", rejoices Rovelli.

The first meeting between the Italians would have gone admirably well: "the sensation was enormous, the immediate understanding, our concordant visions allowed us to unite", says the president of Parkingo.

"Thanks to the experience of our engineer Massimo Bordi who plays a very important role in this project, I am convinced that all the elements are there to achieve our objectives", assures Castiglioni Junior. All that remains is to know the name of the driver Luca Scassa, Davies’ teammate in Supersport and former MV Agusta driver in STK 1000, would be in the starting blocks….

Mamma mia, a 100% Italian team to fight against the ZX-6R of Sofuoglu and Foret, the R6 of Lowes and Leonov and the CBR600RR of Van der Mark and Zanetti? The 2013 Mondial Supersport season will be one to follow closely, on Site of course: stay tuned !
