The French Cluzel and Marino tried absolutely everything to prevent the coronation of the Dutchman Michael Van den Mark in the World Supersport this afternoon in Jerez, in vain … Of a rare intensity, the race will remain as one of the most beautiful of the category !

Supersport Race

Too greedy in the first braking, Michael van den Mark (VDM) widens in the first corner and lets Florian Marino, Lorenzo Zanetti, Patrick Jacobsen, Jules Cluzel and Ratthapark Wilairot pass in front of him. Follow behind VDM Rafaelle de rosa, Roberto Rolfo and Kevin Coghlan. Valentin Debise is 16th.

Kenan Sofuoglu, who ends his season with the Italian team San Carlo Pucetti Racing, had to start from the pits "after having exceeded the number of engines authorized per season, as stipulated in article 1.21.20 of the regulations", specified last night officials. Three-time Turkish champion completes first lap last.

At the head of the race, our dear n ° 21 made an excellent first lap and started the second lap in front of his teammate Jacobsen. Zanetti is in front of Kennedy who took advantage of a somewhat messy Cluzel to grab fourth place.

In Cluzel’s wheel on the 2nd lap, Van den Mark climbed to fifth position at the start of the 3rd lap but, as if stung to the quick, Jules recovered his fourth place and even climbed to third position at the start of the 4th lap! MV Agusta rider now targets Zanetti’s Honda.

Lorenzo simplifies the task of our Jules by widening in the long curve Sito Pons! The F3 # 16 is found in the aspiration of the Ninja # 21. But a small mistake by Cluzel made him lose two places in the 5th lap … Jules was once again ahead of his great rival in the championship, Van den Mark.

While Marino still leads ahead of Jacobsen, Cluzel and Van den Mark overtake Zanetti. "Magic" Michael then slides his Honda under the MV Agusta, then under the No. 60 Kawasaki in the 7th lap. Cluzel sticks to championship leader, snatching third place from Jacobsen.

Determined, Jules attacked Michael in the fast section and began the 8th lap in Florian’s wheel, still first. The fastest man on the track is very far from the leading peloton: Sofuoglu is 21st, 13 seconds behind the leaders.

Cluzel tries to put the brakes on Marino at the end of the opposite straight line, but widens and lets Van den Mark pass! Attacked by Michael on the last corner of the 8th lap, Marino was stuck to his lines and kept the reins of the race. But Cluzel, VDM, Jacobsen, Zanetti, Kennedy and Wilairot are all in his wake…

Cluzel takes the lead in the middle of the 10th lap and hopes that Marino will stay in second position to allow him to grab some extra points in the championship … Instead, Florian – who is also fighting for the title! – attack Jules and take back first place…

Cluzel and Van den Mark swap second place several times at the start of lap 12, then Jacobsen joins in! Michael swoops into first place under the brakes of turn 6 and tries to drive home the point. In vain: Marino recovers his property two laps later.

There are only five laps to go and the three leading men have a few steps ahead of Jacobsen and Kennedy. Coghlan, Wilairot, Zanetti and Rolfo are more than four seconds behind and can no longer claim the podium given the pace of the leaders !

Marino almost got out of the first corner of the 16th lap and let Van den Mark pass in front of him. But n ° 21 came back very quickly, leaving Cluzel and Van den Mark to explain themselves a little! The multiple passes in the 17th loop allow Jacobsen and Kennedy to tie up to the leading group…

At the end of another calmer lap, Van den Mark climbs to second place, overtaking Cluzel in acceleration in front of the pits! Attacked – umpteenth time! – by Van den Mark, Marino is intractable and does not hesitate to rub against the fairing of the Honda…

Approaching the last corner of this penultimate lap, Jules Cluzel delays as much as possible – and a little more still – his braking. The MV Agusta pops up in front of the Honda and Kawasaki at the entrance to the turn, but ends up on its side in the middle of the curve and slides out of the turn…

Cluzel gets up in no time, lifts his F3 hastily but cannot start again. The "Coq Supersportif" sees its hopes of title soar definitely…

On the track, Michael van den Mark applied himself and prevented any attack from Patrick Jacobsen, who took advantage of the fall of Jules Cluzel to place his ZX-6R in front of that of Florian Marino. The two Kawasaki accompany the new world champion on the podium !
