MOTORCYCLE tour tip – Upper Swabia
The Upper Swabian Baroque Road through the country

Tour tip

The Oberschwabische Barockstrabe has been leading motorized tourists through the Landle for decades. The fact that the Gengend also invites you to great beer tourism is a wonderful discovery for hop enthusiasts.

The entire edition of RIDE and all tours will be available from April 1st at the kiosk!

The most spectacular scenic part of the route is in the south: for example on the Hochst mountain with a view of the Alps and Lake Constance. Tip: Plan the tour so that you spend the evening hours there and plan an overnight stay. Then you can also taste the beer collected on the way in the breweries in peace. In addition, the tours of the impressive baroque buildings take up quite a bit of time, and the journey over some of the smallest secondary routes can hardly be done in a rush. It also makes little sense, rather enjoy the beautiful, hilly cultural landscape at a leisurely pace!

Route

Immediately behind the parking lot at Zwiefalter Klosterbrau, a small road branches off from the B 312 into the Dobeltal (signposted)

  • Great curve road through a rocky gorge, turn left to Morsingen, then continue to Riedlingen
  • briefly on the B 312 over the Danube, then right on the L 275 to Durmentingen and to Bad Buchau
  • If necessary, plan a longer stop at the Federsee with the Wackelwald nature experience path
  • continue on the L 180 to Oggelshausen, from there to the south in the direction of Bad Schussenried and Steinhausen (the allegedly most beautiful village church in the world is located here – at least a quick look at the imposing ceiling fresco of the pilgrimage church is a must!)
  • in Schussenried in the middle of the village in the Ott brewery with beer garden in the inner courtyard and beer mug museum; Also very present and worth seeing: the monastery with the baroque library hall
  • on the branch line to the southwest via Hopferbach and further on mini roads via Boms to the B 32 to Eichstegen and Hobkirch to Konigseggwald (there Walderbrau, only ramp sales, no official shop)
  • on L 288 to Riedhausen, along a bumpy small road from Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried to Illmensee, out of town, follow the main road, turn left towards Krumbach
  • great route uphill to Lichtenegg and up to “Pass height” at the huge transmitting antenna on the Hochst mountain (838 meters; make sure to take the few steps from the parking lot up to the vantage point, it’s worth it! For a longer rest: mountain inn with panoramic terrace)
  • Curvy, demanding route via Wahlweiler and Azenweiler down to Deggenhausertal, then on L 204 and turn right south to Gehrenberg
  • behind Harresberg to the Gehrenberg observation tower (15-minute detour on foot, but great view of Lake Constance)
  • steeply sloping road to Markdorf, cross the B 33 and continue southwards via Zeppelinstrabe towards Riedheim, Raderach nested over secondary roads with a few through-roads (Ittenhausen, Ailingen, Kehlen) to the B 30, further on secondary routes to Pfingstweid to Tettnang
  • in Tettnang Neues Schloss (considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque castles in Upper Swabia) and overnight accommodation (for example in the Brauereigasthof Krone, connected to the Kronen Brewery)
  • to the northeast, leave town in the direction of Siggenweiler, turn off from Hopfensteig to Hopfengut N ° 20 (hop museum with guided tour highly recommended)
  • on mini roads via Obereisenbach, Unter- and Oberrussenried to Ebersberg then via Speisberg on the B 32 (great section!)
  • to Ravensburg (lively old town, Leibinger brewery with restaurant just outside the city center)
  • in Weingarten on the L 317 towards Wolfegg (behind it the L 317 as a beautiful route, because there is little traffic, through the hill country near Einturnen!) and Bad Wurzach, then on the L 314 and L 301 (fluffy, small country roads) to Rot an der Rot (monastery, possibly. Coffe break)
  • on to Ochsenhausen (also worth seeing monastery on Oberschwabsichen Barockstrabe)
  • on the branch line to the B 312 via Mittelbuch and Fischbach to Ummendorf (brewery with mini-shop) and through Biberach (beautiful old town)
  • on the B 312 west to Uttenhausen and up to Aderzhofen to Bussen (767 meters), the holy mountain of Upper Swabia (walk to the chapel and castle ruins approx. 5 min, great panoramic view)
  • down to the B 311 and north, in Datthausen over the Danube to Zweifaltendorf (Mini-Brewery Blanks with inn and beer garden)
  • on the B 312 to Zwiefalten (concluding with a visit to the monastery and brewery, registration required)
