MV-Agusta Brutale 1090 RR 2011

The new emperor of roadsters is called 1090 R. Appearing at the same time as the little brother 990, the Brutale family was not going to let the youngest take on all the panache of novelty. Developed on the same basis, the fat and sublime Varese roadster also logically claims 85% of new parts. Its 4 cylinders are based on the 998 cm3 of the brother with the same piston stroke coated with a larger bore of 3mm. The 1090 R Brutale therefore announces a displacement of 1078 cm3 (what connection with the name? Do not try to understand ,,,); or a cubic capacity identical to the previous 1078 RR, previously derived from the engine of the fabulous F4 1080 CC – Quite a family story. What is surprising is the lower power announced: 144 horsepower – while the previous version developed 10 more. Suddenly, the difference in jags is only a handful between the 990 and the 1090. However, the electronic management, the torque distribution and the superior quality of the chassis should clearly mark their respective territories..

Because engine and chassis have changed. In addition to its dimensions and its power, the block of the Brutale also benefits from improved cooling and lubrication circuits, a new gearbox, and to make the distinction with the 990, the rocker cover is painted red. The cycle part is also recovering. Trellis frame and swingarm seem to have not moved, yet they are lightened and reinforced. The wheelbase is about twenty mm longer and the caster angle has been reduced from 24.5 ° to 25 ° – the new, lighter rims (different from the 990) will take care of maintaining the liveliness of the machine . Efficiency is enhanced with the optimization of the suspensions and the appearance of a rotary steering damper. More sporty than its brother, the 1090 pampers the pilot with larger brake discs of 10 mm (320 in diameter), radial monobloc brake calipers, adjustable footrests and … worn on this silhouette that has become timeless and yet re-lifted today.

MV-Agusta Brutale 990 R

But like a Monster or a 916, the Brutale can’t change. The design of Massimo Tamburini is preserved, simply retouched on details, like the headlights and the rear trim, with the name Brutale engraved on the sides near the new LED lights. There’s this new handlebars, these new intake gills, and this headlight, so velvety. Identical in shape, barely hiding new irises, including 2 series of diodes creating a superb line of night lights. The indicators, fed up with hanging out between the fork and the headlight, have simply integrated the mirrors. The most changed element, and this blatantly, is the counter. No common point with the old one. Some will find its design less sporty, more “Japanese-style”, but we can only be pleased with the additional information it provides..

More ease of driving, softened power, contained vibrations and more flexible electronics for the pilot … Will the Brutale still bear its name so proudly with these new sweets that it grants to its contenders? ?
