MZ / MuZ (Motorad Zschopau) 1000 SF SUPER FIGHTER 2005

The discreet German brand MZ takes advantage of the Munich show to present a rather shameless roadster. A new Street-Fighter which is in fact a naked version of the 1000 S. Aesthetically, the MZ gives off a certain aggressiveness that the sportswoman does not have.. By changing her dress, the German wins. Result of chance or stylistic inspiration, SF seems to have copied the formula used by Yamaha with its R1 Steel Fighter. We remove the fairing, we modify the fork crown a bit, more than a few small stylistic effects that make the charm of a machine. Still in an “East German” design, the radiator scoops and the engine guard take the color of the inverted fork in this black and gold version. Not bad, not bad at all !
No surprises concerning the chassis and the engine, because from the S model. The propellant unit is an in-line twin with more than 110 hp and 10 mkg. A pleasant mechanics coupled with a very present character and serving a chassis without history. The S is a good bike, just penalized by a lack of reputation. Let’s bet that SF attracts new customers at MZ. She’s already a real eye-catcher, and it’s not nothing.

The big twin has the merit of distinguishing itself by its architecture – parallel as on the Yam 850 TRX – but its behavior is unflattering in low revs. Compared to the sports car, the camshafts have been revised to optimize torque, the final transmission is shorter and the exhaust differs. The factory has also revisited the injection but … Bof. Do you like to move smoothly at low speed? Forget. The SF pounded, hiccuped, almost sick from a poorly digested injection. To review quickly! It’s a shame because once past this difficult course, the German mill becomes much friendlier. A little less powerful than on the S, the twin tows with good will and even a certain pep in the absence of a real character..

For a large displacement roadster, the MZ is offered at an attractive price. Is there a bone somewhere? Not on the finish anyway, which is excellent. Perhaps on the suspensions? No more. The settings of the Marzocchi fork are not easy to access but we still have the right to touch the laws of hydraulics. The rear Sachs is very accessible, a point rare enough to be underlined. SF reacts a lot to settings, which bodes well but requires attention..
Those who drove the S will wonder if the SF is really derived from it as its driving is so different. How is this? Well, on the roadster, the tubes went up 15 mm in the triple trees, the driver’s position became natural and pleasant, the weight fell below 200 kgs. Result: the bike is now ready to play at will and can be taken with ease. One glance, a little bit of the handlebars, and the machine follows the rhythm with a smile and efficiency. It rolls and wraps well, it brakes well, and it protects well. That is stronger! The mini fork crown is much more efficient than it seems. You can go at high speed without your head being crushed in your back and even the rain dulls its weapons on this small piece of fairing..

The MZ 1000 SF is trying to enter a market that is booming but not necessarily easy to conquer. She has the potential, a face all her own, but lacks reputation. But among all the models that are fighting in this niche, how many are the twin 1000 cm3 roadsters for less than 10,000 €? ?
