The WSBK’s new brake calipers are derived from MotoGP. Cooling fins are milled into the body for the hot races.

As usual in the WSBK, the four-piston bite over the linings in steel discs. MotoGP has carbon discs here.

It is questionable whether the wonderful looking saddles will ever come in the extreme street versions of the WSBK homologation bikes.

But they would make themselves chic on the house route.

Milled saddles with cooling for the World Superbike

Brembo has developed new brake calipers for World Superbike races at very high outside temperatures. The technology is derived from MotoGP and shines with adjustable brake pressures. Whether this will be a series?

It would be nice to go round the house with such a noble brake system, but for now only the professionals of the WSBK are allowed to drive the new Brembo calipers. The ones from the MotoGP Derived calipers are milled from one piece of aluminum and work with four pistons, each 34 millimeters in diameter, the Z04 sintered pads from Brembo are adapted to this. The WSBK saddles are not made of an aluminum-lithium alloy as in MotoGP, but of a common aluminum alloy.

More choices

In order to withstand the high braking temperatures without fading, additional cooling fins are milled into the radially screwed calipers, which lower the temperatures of the brake lining and brake fluid. As usual in the WSBK, the four pistons of the pliers press the linings into steel disks, as the regulations forbid the use of carbon disks, which are common in MotoGP. Adapted to the new saddles Brembo also new internally ventilated brake discs, which are also offered with different diameters depending on the race track. 338.5 millimeters in diameter are intended for the tough conditions on the Donington, Barcelona and Magny-Cours routes. Discs with a diameter of 336 millimeters have been developed for use on less braking-intensive routes. Furthermore, the new WSBK discs are available in four different thicknesses to further adapt the braking performance to the driver and the route.

More brake pressure, less friction

Besides the new look and pairing with new brake discs, the saddle offers two very interesting features. On the one hand, the braking torque, i.e. the increase in the brake pressure on the caliper, can be adjusted mechanically. In this way, the ratio of brake lever to braking force can be adjusted: Less manual force, more braking force. That sounds a bit like the well-known RCS pumps from Brembo, but they change the transmission ratio of the lever to the hydraulics and thus modulate the response of the brake. On the other hand, the new calipers have built in a spring system in order to remove the always lightly fitting brake pads from the disc when there is no brake pressure. This should minimize the friction losses of the brake while driving

Conclusion

If your own driving performance is also far from that in the WSBK, such delicious photos are a reason to take a closer look. Perhaps such cooling fins and the adjustable brake pressure will soon also be found on the high-end supersport models and editions of series machines.
