The Yamaha XSR 900 Type 11 was part of the Yamaha Yard-Built project and was created by Auto Fabrica. The custom bike was built in three stages of development.

Originally, the British remodeling company Auto Fabrica planned a racing motorcycle, which was also implemented in the form of a first prototype. The so-called "Prototype One" was designed through and through for use on the racetrack. For the basic model, the guys from Auto Fabrica chose a Yamaha XSR 900 decided. Otherwise, only the finest components from Ohlins, Brembo and sometimes specially manufactured components were used in the first prototype. Some of the numerous carbon parts were also made using the carbon-nylon 3D printing process. The exhaust was also handmade.

First Prototype Three, then Prototype Two

After the racing machine was completed, it quickly became clear that the next thing to do was to produce a similar motorcycle for the road. Accordingly, the team got down to work and created a new custom bike called the "Prototype Three" saw the light of day. This time a Yamaha XS 750 was used as the basis, which was chosen because of its classic design. With a few new components, Auto Fabrica has increased performance and a significantly improved driving experience. In addition to a new speedometer from Motogadget, the British also donated some handcrafted and partially 3D-printed parts to the new prototype, which should combine classic design with modern technology.

Development began with the so-called Prototype One.

After Prototype One and Prototype Three were finalized, it was obvious that the gap between the two bikes had to be closed in the form of Prototype Two. The goal in development was to merge the best features of the two previous bikes. Accordingly, Auto Fabrica decided to use the XSR 900 as a basis, which was used in a further developed form for the first prototype. The performance data is therefore more similar to that of the first prototype. However, it looks different with the optics. There, the British screwdriver team used Prototype Three. In the end, a bike came out that combines the best features of the previously developed bikes.
