Paris Motor Show - Covid-19: motorcycle shows in the turmoil of the coronavirus? - Used BMW

What will be the consequences of this unprecedented health crisis on motorcycle shows? BMW Motorrad has already taken drastic measures on its promotional activities: the motorcycle branch of the German manufacturer will ignore the Intermot motorcycle shows in Cologne (Germany) and Eicma in Milan (Italy) because of the coronavirus… Explanations.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the containment measures imposed by this virus are severely shaking motorcycle production, which is recording significant losses since concessions, stores and factories are almost at a standstill. Consequence: manufacturers reduce the wing by reducing or even eliminating their promotional budgets (events, advertising campaigns, etc.).

BMW will not take part in two of the most important motorcycle events of the year 2020: "its" national Intermot show in Cologne and the Eicma show in Milan, a flagship event where virtually all motorcycle and scooter novelties are unveiled.

"This decision was taken in reaction to the uncertainty associated with short-term planning, as well as for all our partners involved in the events of BMW Motorrad and this in the interests of safety, predictability and transparency", announces the propeller mark that is positioned no less than six months in advance.

The 2020 novelties will be presented on "alternative platforms" during the usual trade fair period, in the fall. The Munich brand will rely more and more on its "own digital communication channels", in other words social networks and official video channels.

The Mondial de la Moto in suspense

MNC notes, however, that BMW does not mention the Mondial de la Moto scheduled for October 1 to 11 in Paris. And for good reason: the holding of the Parisian event is strongly compromised insofar as its organizer has just made it known that he would not be able "to maintain [it] in its current form".

Only the parts known as "outside the walls" of the Mondial de Paris are "for the moment" maintained. These are events organized outside and not in the Porte Versailles Exhibition Center. But insofar as none of these activities dedicated to new mobilities directly concern motorcycles, the Mondial de la Moto could indeed be condemned "in its current form"…
