Tuuulululuuuut. The company phone rioted through the Kivo halls. As calm and obliging as Edgar appears outwardly, his eyes are always wide awake, his surroundings never escape him.

People know the Kivo more than anyone. Technical failure, poor athletic performance or scruffy appearance: Edgar can, but above all does not want to afford it.

The Kivo is only available on the racing course with his wife Ilse. If you now let the Kivos circle circle, it goes on cheerfully. Daughter Sabine, son Andreas, as well as daughter-in-law and son-in-law plus grandchildren also have a common theme every day of the week.

When the development in off-road sport began to show the dividing lines more sharply, Kivo decided – also in consultation with his wife Ilse – for trial sport. “It’s quieter and more familiar,” says Edgar.

Edgar Kivo started off-road driving as early as 1968. Back then there was not such a clear division as it is today. Enduro? Motocross? Trial? The young Edgar was just thundering around with Zundapp and Maico in Odenheim.

Very relaxed: Hustle and bustle is not one of the characteristics of the 64-year-old. Maybe normal for someone born on New Year’s Eve.

Edgar’s world from the trail

Edgar Kindsvogel has been selling, repairing and improving trial motorcycles for decades. There is also something refreshing for him at the weekend: trial driving.

Pffffffft. A compressor pushes air into a van tire. Edgar Kindsvogel handles the manometer calmly and calmly in his workshop. Hustle and bustle is not one of the characteristics of the 64-year-old. Perhaps normal for someone who was born on New Year’s Eve and got to know fireworks as a starting signal. In the trial scene they only call him the “Kivo”. But that has always been possible to pluralize. Because the Kivo is only available on the racing course with his wife Ilse. If you now let the Kivos circle circle, it goes on cheerfully. Daughter Sabine, son Andreas, as well as daughter-in-law and son-in-law plus grandchildren also have a common theme every day of the week. The Kivos live out this topic particularly intensively on the weekends: Trial, Trial and again Trial.

The pffffft is already a thing of the past, the one Kivo racing transporter is almost ready to go again to head for a trial area via a motorway from the Kraichtal-Munzesheim in Baden. Personally, professionally – there is little separation among the Kivos. On the Easter weekend, Kivo I would like to go to Belgium in the Ardennes for the Classic Trial. Son Andy, Kivo II, who was active in the German, European and World Championships, gives a trial course. Edgar Kivo started off-road driving as early as 1968. On the other hand, the vacuum cleaner humming out of the van doesn’t mean it at all. The boss works personally and energetically on the cleanliness of the racing car. Even if the mission in Aywaille, Belgium is more for personal edification, the service vehicle has to be in first class. A matter of honor. Just like his current emergency vehicle in the classic trial – an air-cooled four-stroke twin shock Honda. Because no matter where the Kivo appears, everyone knows everyone in this little scene. And people know the Kivo even more than anyone. Technical failure, poor athletic performance or scruffy appearance: Edgar can, but above all does not want to afford it. So it’s time to get down to business and find time.

Time that he actually cannot carve. Unload freshly delivered tires in the morning at eight hundred, repair the gearbox of a GasGas, take a test drive, provide parts for a Sherco, get a new beta ready to drive, chat with customers. Turn your hobby into a job, turn your job into a hobby. In 1980 the trained auto mechanic, who ran a construction machinery service, started a sideline in a vehicle trade. Back then Fantic trial motorcycles. Manufacturers come and go in trials. Kivo stayed. In 1996 he built a large hall, which is still the current premises of the family business today. Mother Ilse does the office, drives to the post office, cooks, Andy Kindsvogel is the living dictionary for spare parts, daughter Sabine takes care of the accounting, her husband mills and bends the aluminum accessories.

The service vehicle must always be in first class. A matter of honor.

If you want to stay with this manageable scene, you have to get out, have to go to the customer. With a few exceptions, both vans are on trial missions every weekend from March to November. Youth course, state championships, classical and senior trials. Destroyed cooler, missing gloves, advice and action in all situations.

Tuuulululuuuut. The company phone rioted through the Kivo halls. As calm and obliging as Edgar appears outwardly, his eyes are always wide awake and he never escapes his surroundings. After two rings someone picks up the phone and can then take care of something else. Discipline and ambition are its primary virtues. Especially when it comes to driving, he doesn’t give up. Years ago, the family kindly but definitely pushed him into a lower class – and that made him, the series winner.

But no matter where and how, being active in the trial is his elixir of life, gives joy and strength for everyday life. Rummmms. The master nimbly pushes one of the two Hondas into the hold via an aluminum rail. Time is running out, he still has to put the brake on one of his Hondas. And then, on Good Friday, we go early on the train with our wife. How many weekends has he been away in his life? He thinks for a moment and then grins with satisfaction: “I don’t know, a lot. With 45 years of trial sport a lot comes together. “
