It is not all gold that glitters, as the saying goes. Benelli’s new Cafe Racer is a brilliant success? says motorcycle.

How times change. "The Unfinished" was the headline of a colleague about three years ago B.enelli Tornado Tre, attested the 900er to good systems at the time, but glaring flaws in detail. And now, three years later? After a change of ownership, a considerable increase in displacement to 1130 cubic centimeters, countless mapping updates and even more optimization in every nook and cranny with the Cafe Racer, Benelli gives us a TnT offshoot that has earned the above slogan.

Why? Because the fantastic driving fun and the sometimes beautiful details that have always distinguished the mighty 1130 triple with the idiosyncratic frame concept finally meet a finish that is not exemplary, but at least acceptable given the price of 13,290 euros. The overall impression of the paintwork of the Cafe Racer, which is only available in gold, is just as impressive.
Whether you like the combination of handlebar stubs that are well above triple clamp level and mirrors attached to their ends is of course a matter of taste. In any case, this arrangement works both in terms of consideration and the basic ergonomic conditions, which compared to the standard TnT were mildly moving towards sport. Gathered but not bent over? This is how you have to describe the seating position, which is hardly disadvantageous on the country road, but has clear advantages on the motorway. At best, a BMW K 1200 R marches among the naked people with this vehemence and at the same time this equanimity like the Cafe Racer. It is also astonishing that things are by no means turbulent behind the characteristic lamp mask. In view of the fat power reserves? the test bench certified 130 hp on the clutch on the test model ?? therefore, even outspoken coffeehouse-goers catch themselves enjoying the performance potential on the autobahn, which manifests itself after a shorts period with speedometer displays above 260 km / h.

If you have not activated the economy mode. In contrast to previous measurements, the change in the map, which can be activated at the push of a button, is clearly noticeable during driving and on the test bench. The four-valve engine then mobilizes just 115 hp. That doesn’t mean that the triple, conditioned in this way, would become a food lover on the MOTORRAD test lap. But 6.2 liters per 100 km / h are in contrast to more than seven from the past at least within the framework of the usual.

This does not apply to driving pleasure. It is exorbitant even in economy mode, because the engine still pushes so hard, sounds so robust, grinds so wonderfully like no other. In addition, the new, fully adjustable suspension elements, which were previously reserved for sport, are well-known chassis qualities. The Benelli lies like dowels in corners, delivering wonderfully accentuated feedback at the front and rear, in short ?? rides one irresistible attack after the other on the sticky Dunlop D 208 RR even among introverted contemporaries. That this TnT is not the easiest to handle either, that it does not have any radial brake calipers? the connoisseur will easily get over it. And enjoy the glamor of the cafe during a stopover with friends
Racers look forward.
