Hanko Yamaha XSR 700

Nobody can do it like the carpenter

Wood as a material on a motorcycle is unusual, even on a custom bike. The Hanko Yamaha XSR 700 proudly wears a lot of it in front of the chest, the radiator and the bow.

As part of the Yard Built program, offers Yamaha talented customizers the opportunity to make their dreams come true. Yamaha provides the basic bike, the converters bring their ideas.

George Woodman is a carpenter, furniture designer and interior architect and you can see that in his Hanko XSR 700, which was created as part of this Yard Built program.

Paneling parts made of guitar wood

Woodman is of course an artist name, but a very appropriate one, since the French Sebastien from Biarritz deals a lot with wood both professionally and on his Hanko custom bike. The Yamaha Revstar family of electric guitars provides further inspiration. The ebony lamp mask, radiator cowling, front spoiler and side frame protectors and chain guard are derived from this. On the other hand, the one-man seat hump, which reaches down to the tank, is literally carved from solid pieces. A quilted leather overlay provides a bit of comfort.

The new lines are completed by a tank cover, a new front fender and a front spoiler that hides the front silencer. These components are made from Corian, a high-tech plastic from Dupont that is normally used in kitchen construction.

While an LED headlight cuts aisles in the night, the LED rear light nestles inconspicuously in the rear of the frame.

Custom parts should come in small series

Because the Hanko should not only look good, but should also drive well, Sebastien relies on good fabric from Ohlins for the fork and shock absorber, which with a black patent leather dress and bellows hide its origin. Stretched over the tank, the pilot grabs new clip-on handlebars and puts his feet on gills from Gilles Tooling, while the two-cylinder under him passes through K&N-Filter sniffs fresh air and roars its zest for life into the landscape through an under-engine Ixrace exhaust system with rectangular stubby tailpipes. The sticky Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP skins promise sufficient grip at all times.

The Hanko Yamaha XSR 700 celebrated its premiere at the Waves & Wheels 2017 in Biarritz. Many of the custom parts are still prototypes, but should be produced in small series by the end of 2018. Well then, good wood Sebastien!
