Go around the corner more relaxed

No, surprisingly the Svartpilen 701 did not take the stage. At the last EICMAs, Husqvarna presented “Concept Bikes” from the Pilen line with great regularity, which were available from dealers as series models only a little later and only slightly modified. Just as expected: only a little later we have the latest Swedish arrow for first use under the tester’s bottom.

GIn the tradition of the model family, the Schwarzpfeil also has a thoroughly designed design language including fine details and tons of brand logos. The model positioning as a light scrambler is new. Or rather a flat tracker? Husqvarna doesn’t know that exactly either, but quotes friendly in both camps. At the front there is a wide handlebar for an upright ride, at the rear a crisp (cut) end with a rear spoiler and number plate, on both of which are slightly rustic MT60 rubbers from Pirelli.

Driving behavior much more relaxed

The black arrow is not a touring swing either, which is no surprise given previous experience with the Pilens. The handlebars are too flat for that, the chassis too tight and the seat too thin. And the engine too brutal. Despite all the pacification measures of recent years, the current evolutionary stage of the 690 single is also punching forward with almost ambush-like power, but only from around 5,000 rpm. But it’s not that bad, because he only bumps offended under 3,500 tours. And because the precisely switchable gearbox, together with the well-functioning quickshifter, makes avoiding the speed basement a fun affair. So far, so well known.

The new Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is available now. Cost: 10,195 euros.

A new taste nuance in the Pilen menu provides the driving behavior. It’s now much more relaxed around the corner: a good 160 kilos live weight and a wide sail pole mean nothing else can be expected. But you have to do a bit of work here too. The 18-inch front wheel needs a clear steering impulse and wants to be kept on course with gentle but determined pressure in an inclined position. And if you let yourself be animated to full attack by the nasty tearing engine, you will also find yourself confronted with a lively rear in the curve and a light front after the curve. With traction control switched on and an alert mind, this is more entertaining than annoying.

Speaking of disturbing, there is one more surprise. In contrast to the Vitpilen, the Svartpilen’s clutch lever is no longer only designed for children’s hands. If you want to shoot the black arrow, you can already consult your trusted Husqvarna dealer, but you should have 10,195 euros with you.
