The 140 hp three-cylinder finally has a response that is worthy of it and goes like a pig. Seldom has an engine been so much fun.

Brutal power

Content of

The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR now has the double R in its name. But what used to mean a slightly better chassis, a couple of fancier wheels and, above all, a lot of carbon and special paint is now an almost completely new motorcycle with real power.

Understatement has never been a typical Italian virtue. But our boot friends often put on thick trousers in such a sympathetic way that we end up smiling, turning our palms up and swinging the tent of thumb, index and middle finger through the air in solidarity. You know that: “Ahh, everything is wonderful!” And that brings us right to the point M.V Agusta Brutale 800 RR, because after a really hot ride on this naked bike through the breathtaking forest and hilly landscape of Tuscany, I stand next to this also more than handsome part and – yes, my palms are pointing up.

Brutal power

MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR doesn’t need any understatement. Especially not when it comes to the engine. 140 hp from 800 cubic meters – amazing! The top performance is at 13,100 / min, and the triple turns up to 13,200 / min! Now one might think that the MV people would have made a barrel organ out of the fine 125 hp engine of the standard 800 series, which may be fun on the racetrack, but makes no sense on the road.

Now at the MOTORRAD readers’ poll "Motorcycle of the year 2018" take part

The RR Brutale already pulls in at over 4000 rpm

It is not so. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR makes sense on country roads, because the torque of 86 Nm over a long plateau allows both strolling and an accurate attack. The RR Brutale already pulls in at over 4000 rpm, for many reasons. Among other things, their short secondary gear ratio, their new exhaust and, above all, the changed intake system with new injection hardware and mapping. The airbox has been redesigned and now offers space for an injection system that has two injection nozzles per intake port.

These fire the fuel through 50-millimeter throttle valves into the combustion chambers. Hissing wildly, the triple transmits its power linearly to the rear wheel, which makes it easy to flick along the road and, above all, wonderfully out of the corners of the endless curves. The nice thing about it is the mapping as a whole and the throttle response in particular, because finally the electronics work right away on a new MV. Even twitching around tight 180-degree turns is not an unbearable hack until you reach higher speeds. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR takes off very smoothly, only to explode again with increased turn on the gas.

Sport mapping, standard mapping and customer setting

We mostly drove in sports mapping. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR offers a gentler standard mapping and one for rain, as well as a freely programmable customer setting. The great thing about the sport setting: Everything is active. ABS, traction control (which unfortunately is still not really reliable and somehow only gives eight levels in the display) and the standard gearshift that works perfectly and even includes a blipper system. Now there are sure to be contemporaries who are bothered by such electronic helpers.

Dear friends: If, for example, it is a matter of hanging a lightning-fast, fearless MV guide who is driving the 180 bends for the fourth day in a row at the rear, then such a blipper is simply ingenious and cannot be closed by any hitch, no matter how experienced replace. Dash towards the curve, drop anchor and at the same time step down the aisles with a gentle kick. The left hand remains unmoved on the handlebars. It’s unbelievable how much memory this leaves free in the brain for a close look along the curve, calm desire for attacks and fun in the heart. In addition, fine Brembo stoppers with very sporty Bosch ABS – great! The handiness and cornering stability of the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR have already ensured the test victory against other triples in PS 08/2014, and the RR can also impress here.

“Luxury Bikes”

The new chassis of the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR with the fully adjustable Marzocchi fork with DLC-coated aluminum stanchions and the Sachs shock absorber is a bit too soft for my taste, but should offer enough adjustment options to always be very happy Very easy to arm the front wheel at the exit of the curve. Just in case, there is an eight-way adjustable steering damper on board.

While the 800 triple is still crackling, I’m looking forward to the high-quality finish and design of the new MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR. Company boss Giovanni Castiglioni calls his products “luxury bikes”. He is right. That in this context he puts them above all other brands … well, typically Italian.
