Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage in the driving report

For fun, sports and games

Let’s not kid ourselves: this is all about the show. Because technically the Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage is practically identical to the basic version, optically with striking applications and add-on parts in groovy red, however, heavily pepped up.

The Yamaha got its name M.T-07 Moto Cage through the tubular steel cage screwed to the left and right of the frame, which looks like a reinforcing frame part. However, it is by no means used as a load-bearing element, but is intended to protect the machine with its crash pads from further damage in the event of an accident. The Moto Cage’s equipment package also includes a number of other parts: a strikingly structured pillion seat, hand protectors, an adjustable front shield, bright red radiator protectors, a red painted front wheel and lots of stickers, of course in red.

The technology was taken over untouched

This cool equipment package is supposed to make the MT-07 a toy for stunt fans. Functionally, however, it does not contribute in any way because, as I said, the technology has been adopted practically untouched. For fun, sport and play, the small 690 twin does not need any special tuning despite its manageable peak power of nominally 75 PS, because with its lively characteristics, its linear torque curve and heart-refreshing dynamics, it provides the best conditions by default. Last but not least, the crank pin offset of 270 degrees contributes to this, transforming the double-row model into a V-twin. The low weight of less than 190 kilograms with a full tank also plays a decisive role. The handling is outstanding, especially in the lower speed range, the Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage invites you to lively hustle and bustle with explosive dynamics.

The brakes do not spoil the bill either. ABS is standard on board, albeit not a sophisticated high-tech system. As long as this does not have to intervene, the stoppers can also play tougher games without complaint.

The landing gear also remained untouched. Unfortunately, demanding stunt pilots will say. Like the basic version, the Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage is extremely softly sprung and cushioned. Sporty dynamics or acrobatic inserts bring the comfort-oriented spring elements to their limits. A fun toy, which is also known to apply to the basic MT-07. There are no tangible advantages, so ultimately it’s about whether you like the pepped look.
